Vision Award for First Alvin
TE Craig King and the congregation of First Presbyterian, Alvin, have been named recipients of a 2015 Vision Award for Wellness given by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services for their time, talent, and expertise improving the lives of older adults and others through the Gathering Place. This ministry gives family members a break from the round-the-clock cycle of providing care to loved ones who have dementia. Craig will travel to Austin to receive the award on behalf of all the volunteers at the Gathering Place. Thank you, Alvin Presbyterian!
Pat journals with Caring Bridge
You may not know about Caring Bridge. It is a website where someone can easily share information with all the people who care about them. TE Pat Clark, HR, has a Caring Bridge website where she is recording her journey with cancer. She invites you "to walk these roads with me."
How do we live with integrity in our multi-faith world?
Consider attending a conference at Montreat Conference Center this fall called "Neighbor: Being Christian in a Multi-faith World," Oct. 12-15. "Neighbor" is for those who want to be stretched outside of their comfort zones in a safe place as they learn to listen beyond bias, stereotype, and bland generalizations. Gain insight into your own Christian faith through learning about other religious traditions. Leaders of the conference will be Brian McLaren, Judy SchindlerNajeeba Syeed-Miller, Valierie Kaur, and Frank Thomas.

Gender and leadership in the PC(USA)
Both men and women are invited to share their thoughts and experiences on gender and leadership in the PC(USA). Racial Ethnic and Women's Ministries, along with Research Services, is embarking upon an extensive study within the PC(USA) that will allow us to learn more about the experiences of people in leadership roles within the PC(USA). The church will gain a keener grasp of what factors support or constrain men's and women's leadership, as well as a deeper insight into the varying experiences of men and women in ministry. It will take about 14 minutes to complete the survey. Questions? Call Angie at Presbyterian Research Services (502-569-5014).
Bonhoeffer
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Bonhoeffer tours in October
Holocaust Museum Houston offers Bonhoeffer tours Saturdays, Oct. 10, 17, 24, 31, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., which focus on the life and ministry of the German Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer - in the context of the events of the Holocaust. These tours are especially suited for confirmation classes to understand how Dietrich Bonhoeffer defined the relationship between church and state as well as his call for the faith-based community to take a stand against oppression and in the face of injustice and terror inflicted by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime.

The Bonhoeffer tours are intended to promote discussion about how we can create communities today in which there is social justice for everyone and no place for hate nor prejudice. Register for a tour (713-527-1602).
Presbyterian Peacemaking Conference in Israel
You are invited to participate in a Presbyterian peacemaking program in Israel/Palestine Apr. 4-16, 2016. Participants in "The Mosaic of Peace Conference" will experience this remarkable and troubled region, encounter its diverse people, explore its rich history and complex current situation, and engage with those who seek its peace. Register by Thurs., Oct. 15. First-time visitors and seasoned travelers to the Holy Land are encouraged to attend. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
Milestone Ministry/Vibrant Faith
You are invited to participate in a conversation with Debbie Streicher, Co-Director of Milestone Ministry, Fri. and Sat, Sept. 25-26, at Spirit of Joy! Lutheran Church, 7550 Crownridge Dr. in The Woodlands. If your church is engaged with Vibrant Faith or its affiliates, these would be great events to consider attending.

On Fri. participants will learn about Milestones as a tool for ministry. If you have been curious about integrating Milestones into your ministry or using them more effectively, this is a great opportunity to learn from Debbie in a small group setting.     More info

On Sat. there will be a workshop on how to begin a puppet ministry as a faith formation tool in your congregation.     Info and registration
