Join in AME Bishops' Call to Action
The leadership of the African Methodist Episcopal Church met recently to reaffirm their commitment to move the nation to face, confront, and act on the issue of race. Founded because of racism and injustice, the AME Church is committed to leading the nation on these important issues.

We are invited to join them Sun., Sept. 6, as they declare that Sunday as a "Day of Confession, Repentance, Prayer, and Commitment to End Racism." They are asking that every church, temple, synagogue, mosque, and place of worship focus on race, while asking every pastor, rabbi, and imam, as well as other leaders to preach on race, reminded that out of one blood, God created all of us to dwell together in unity.
Rebuilding Community, One Place at a Time
The town of Jasper has had two alleged arson fires in two weeks. The first was at a black rural church. The second was at a black owned beauty salon in a poor neighborhood.

Teams of builders from local churches are being recruited, and professional plumbers and electricians are being asked to donate a day of labor. The burned church has been offered access to the First Presbyterian, Jasper, so that they may continue to worship and study scripture together while they figure out what they want to do long term. Peace Beyond Understanding, a 501(c)3, is raising money to rebuild the beauty salon. You may make a donation to help in the rebuilding.    Read more

Please participate in an effort to provide new shoes for all the children affected! John Knox Presbyterian, Houston, would like to provide a $20 Payless gift card for each of the students, to be distributed by their schools, so the kids do not have to start off the school year wearing someone else's used shoes. This is an urgent effort, so contributions need to be received by Tues., Aug. 18, if possible. $20 gift cards OR cash or check contributions can be sent to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 2525 N.
