Commissioners to the July 18 presbytery meeting at Woodlands Community Presbyterian may find materials for the meeting on the presbytery website or attached below. Commissioners will need to be able to access this information at the meeting. Clerks: there will be a Session Records Review following the presbytery meeting. Contact Lynn Hargrove, Stated Clerk, if you will attend.

More!

Since we do not have online registration for the July 18 meeting, it would be most helpful if you would send the names of your elected commissioners to Lynn Hargrove. We are trying to get an estimate for how many lunches to have available. If you know of others from your congregation who would like to attend, please let her know that, too!

Amendments to the Gracious Reconciliation and Dismissal Procedure

Please have any amendments that you plan to offer to the Gracious Reconciliation and Dismissal Procedure submitted to Lynn Hargrove by 5:00 TODAY! There is a proposed special rule for this meeting that would allow only those amendments provided 4 days before the meeting. This rule is to make sure that the writing team will have time to research the legality of any proposed new language.

Lunar Communion Celebration

Webster Presbyterian will present a past-to-present space industry celebration Sun., July 19, 10:30 a.m. with worship and a communion service in commemoration of the one held during the Apollo 11 mission. During this mission, Buzz Aldrin, who was then an Elder at Webster Presbyterian, took communion on the surface of the moon. Each year WPC invites the local community to participate in celebrating this event.

Those present can learn a little Russian space talk, squeeze some space food, view an Orion launch, and marvel at the solar wind project.

More information

Two timely opportunities

On Wed., July 22, at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Paul Hooker (Associate Dean for Ministerial Formation and Advanced Studies at Austin Seminary) will speak at Spring Branch Presbyterian, Houston. The presentation will include a thorough discussion of Amendment 14F (the definition of Marriage) to the Book of Order from the last General Assembly. Dr. Hooker will talk about the language that has changed and offer individuals a chance to ask questions.

On Wed., July 29, at 6:30 p.m., lawyer Patrick F. ("Tim") Timmons, a ruling elder at Pines Presbyterian, Houston, will speak at Spring Branch Presbyterian on the recent decisions made by the Supreme Court regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage. The presentation will include a discussion of the law and its potential ramifications. Individuals will have a chance to ask questions.

Postponed!

The BBQ, sponsored by the Committee on Preparation for Ministry and planned for July 25 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian, Houston, has been postponed.

Available: bias tape for Pillowcase Dresses  new dresses

Spring Branch Presbyterian was blessed with a large donation of Wright's Extra Wide Double Fold Bias Tape which is what is used in making Pillowcase Dresses. The colors of the available tapes are dusty rose, robin's-egg blue, and eggplant purple. Each box contains a mix of 48 packages of each color. There are a few smaller boxes which are enough for about 63 dresses. Spring Branch Presbyterian is not continuing this project, but this bias tape would be perfect for those doing or considering doing the Little Dresses for Africa project or something similar. You may pick up the tapes in the Spring Branch area. If interested in getting a box or two, contact Kay Craig (713-467-7932).

Needed: housing

United Campus Ministries of Greater Houston has hired a new part-time director of students, Mark Horner. He is seeking an affordable place to live. Any tips would be appreciated. If you know of a garage apartment, spare bedroom, or perhaps a house-sitting opportunity in Houston, contact Mark.
