Shiro Presbyterian update The sound of chainsaws once again fills the air in Grimes County where clean-up is progressing. Shiro Presbyterian's steeple, which was toppled by recent storms, has been delivered to the dump and a substantial cover has been installed over the hole in the roof. The congregation has reached a unanimous decision to replace the steeple with a structure resembling the church's original bell tower, more of a square tower like a traditional Scottish church. (see photo)
The congregation worshiped together last Sunday, giving thanks that no one was hurt. "We are grateful for your prayers, words of comfort and concern, and our connectional system with the recommendations and referrals you have sent,"says TE Gayle Grubbs. In addition to friends and colleagues who contacted the church, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance called the morning after the storm to offer assistance.
