- Connie, age 94, died Dec. 30. Connie and her husband were founding members of MDPC. A memorial service will be held Wed., Jan. 7, 3:00 p.m. at the church.
TE Wayne Eberly and family - as they transition to Wayne's new call to Dunn's Corners Community Presbyterian in Rhode Island - and for Pines Presbyterian as the congregation begins another chapter in their ministry.

New Standard Mileage Rates for 2015
The Internal Revenue Service has issued the 2015 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes. Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car, van, pickup or panel truck will be:
- 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations
- 23 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
- 57.5 cents per mile for business miles driven

Volunteers needed to help homeless ministry
Churches are asked to sign up to provide and serve individually-wrapped packaged snacks on the 4th Wednesday of a month (6:00-6:30 p.m.) to the homeless who gather each week for worship, dinner, and fellowship in the parking lot of the Presbytery Center.
At least 4 volunteers are needed to serve the snacks. Sign up for one or more Wednesdays by contacting Patricia Brantley (713-526-2585, ext. 101). Tell her which month(s) you are willing to serve and the name and phone number of your group's contact person. ChristChurch Presbyterian, Bellaire, has already signed up to serve Wed., Jan. 28, but no other months have been claimed.

Fresh Elastic for Stretched-Out Educators
Is the use of technology bringing our communities of faith closer together or pulling us apart? We claim that we cannot live without our digital devices, but is there a more faithful way to live with them? At the next meeting of Fresh Elastic for Stretched-Out Educators, the group will explore "How to Use Technology in the Church." Come ready to discuss and share what is happening in your congregation so that we can learn from one another. If you are a volunteer, paid staff person, teaching elder or just curious, you are invited to come Thurs., Jan. 22, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Presbytery Center.

 Deadline extended! The deadline for the PYCC (Presbyterian Youth Council Connection) trip to Washington, DC, has been extended to Feb. 1. Youth will learn where and how faith and politics intersect and how to participate as responsible citizens in the legislative process. Flute part needed for Lenten Cantata
Faith Presbyterian, Baytown, is looking for a flute part to the orchestration of the Lenten Cantata, Touched by Christ by Lloyd Larson. If you have the arrangement and would be willing to loan or duplicate the part, contact the church choir director, Dr. David Corder, or call the church at 281-422-2938.

Caregiving can be tough, even for pastors
"Powerful Tools for Pastoral Caregivers," a series of 6 workshops with interactive group lessons, discussion, and brainstorming is designed specifically for the needs of pastors. The class will meet at Interface Samaritan Counseling Center, 4803 San Felipe, Houston (behind St. Philip PC), Thursdays, Jan. 22, to Feb. 26, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Lynn Hargrove and Mike Cole have been a part of a yearlong planning process for a Houston area celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. In spite of differences, people of faith have much that unifies us in Jesus Christ. All are invited to attend a unified service across denominational lines Fri., Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Lakewood Church.

Position opening
Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services is seeking a Clinical Director for a new nonprofit counseling center in Monticello, AR, which will serve youth, adults and families. The Director will be responsible for developing the new center, as well as providing and overseeing services. The professional services will include individual and group psychotherapy, addiction treatment and psychological assessments.
