Family and friends of CRE George W. Davis - George died Oct. 3 in Fredericksburg. He served New Covenant Presbytery as a Commissioned Lay Pastor and as pastor of St. Luke's Presbyterian in in Cleveland, TX. He was one of the first Lay Pastors in the presbytery.
RE Coline "Toto" McGehee, St. Philip Presbyterian, Houston - cataract surgery.
RE Susan McGrail, First Presbyterian, Bryan - recovering from fractured vertebrae. Susan is a member of COM's subcommittee, Professional Life.

Thirteen members of the Chancel Choir of St. Luke's Presbyterian, Houston, will be departing Mon., Oct. 20, for Rome, Italy. Their 7-day tour, by invitation from composer Mark Hayes, will include a wealth of musical and cultural events, concerts, and historical tours. The choir will sing a high mass at St. Peter's Basilica Oct. 22 and present Mark Hayes' Requiem at the Church of St. Ignatius Oct. 26.

Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think
Northwoods Presbyterian, Houston, and The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) - Houston Chapter, are hosting a movie screening and interfaith panel discussion Thurs., Oct. 16, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the church. This movie explores the groundbreaking six-year project conducted by Gallup after 9/11. The interfaith panel discussion following the movie will help us see the 'other' in a new way by confronting stereotypes that abound in popular culture about faith, violence, and extremism. This event is free and no registration is required.

 You are invited! The movie, "The Good Lie," is now showing at Tinseltown in The Woodlands. The movie focuses on the Lost Boys who were orphaned by the brutal civil war in Sudan, bringing to life the story of their survival and triumph.
The Social Justice Forum will sponsor a talk by Abraham Wei, a member of Woodlands Community Presbyterian, Wed., Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m. at the church. Abraham was relocated to the U.S. with the Lost Boys of Sudan resettlement program. He will talk about the movie as well as share his personal experience. Science & Christianity lecture
You are invited to attend a lecture entitled "Faith and Environmental Care" by atmospheric scientist, Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, Sat., Oct. 25, 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian, Houston. Dr. Hayhoe is an associate professor and director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University. Her research focuses on developing and applying high-resolution climate projections to evaluate the future impacts of climate change on human society and the natural environment. She and her husband, Rev. Andrew Farley, are co-authors of Global Warming Facts for Faith-Based Decisions. |

 Free immunizations for children
St. Thomas Presbyterian, Houston, is hosting a free immunization clinic on Tues., Oct. 21, 4:00- 6:30 p.m. St. Thomas and Caring for Children's Foundation Care Van Program will provide free immunizations for children, 2 months through 18 years of age. To receive immunizations, a parent or guardian must be present. Bring the child's immunization record. Must be "Texas Vaccine for Children" eligible (have Medicaid, no insurance, or with insurance that does not cover vaccines - CHIP is no longer eligible).

Help get new single mothers homes up and running! 
Presbyterian Children's Homes & Services will have a Volunteer Day Wed., Oct. 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Furniture will already be in place in the new homes for single mothers, which are adjacent to St. John's Presbyterian, Houston; volunteers will help move in all of the household items and help turn the spaces into homes. Volunteers will carry items from St. John's Fellowship Hall across the parking lot to new homes, so there will be some lifting and bending. Lunch will be provided. Send your name and email address to Jana Hobbs by Thurs., Oct. 23.
Save the Date! A dedication ceremony, ribbon cutting, and campus tour will be held on Wed., Nov. 5, at 10:00 a.m.
