 | Discipleship Thoughts |
Be ruthless in one important area: Yourself. Be ruthless about your commitment to Christ. Be ruthless about your intellectual growth. Be ruthless about finishing well. One of the biggest areas we should be ruthless about is our time. How much time do you spend complaining about your problems to people who can't help you solve them? How much time do you talk when you should be doing? When it comes to others, be gracious. But when it comes to you and your time, be ruthless.

Sexual Misconduct Policies
A sexual misconduct policy for each church council became a Book of Order requirement in 2011. Would you mind sharing your policy with other congregations in the presbytery? We have a request asking for help in their drafting of a new policy and would like to have some resources to assist them. Please send yours to Lynn Hargrove. |

Praise the Lord through singing and understanding hymns!
Jeff and Randy Adams will present a special program based on hymns Sun., Aug. 10, 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian, Angleton (130 S. Arcola, Angleton). Come learn the history of the composers and which scriptures inspire each hymn. Jeff will narrate the history of the hymn, accompanied by his brother Randy on acoustical guitar.
Scripture tells us to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands: sing forth the honor of his name: make his praise glorious." The hymns of our forefathers are a great way to honor the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All are invited to this free concert!

About the immigrant children
"Thank you for your generosity and hospitality to the immigrants that have passed through El Paso to await their court dates and subsequent decisions on their future. Your financial donations, care packages, orders through Amazon, and other gifts have played an enormous role in the lives of these women and children. Even in times of unrest and discomfort with the PCUSA, it is encouraging and inspiring to see the Presbyterian network so alive.
We are no longer in need of donations, either financial or otherwise. Two airplanes scheduled for El Paso were cancelled at the end of last week, and there has been no word from ICE as to whether they intend to send any others. . . For now, we would not feel right receiving donations that would most likely remain unused. Please know how much of an impact your generosity has had on all of our lives here. We also still covet your prayers as we continue to wonder about the futures of those whom we all have served. . . Though it is quiet here in El Paso, the journey is nowhere near being over."
