Discipleship Thoughts

The cross is not the terrible end to an otherwise God-fearing and happy life, but it meets us at the beginning of our communion with Christ.

Presbyterian Youth Connection Council applications

New Covenant's PYCC is a team of youth, in partnership with mentoring adults, who work together to plan and lead events and activities for the youth of our presbytery. These young people form close friendships with youth from other congregations while sharing and exploring their God given gifts. Members of the Council are selected by their home churches.

Interested youth and adults are asked to complete the application forms and submit them by July 1 to their pastor and/or youth leader for evaluation and selection. Each church may name up to 4 youth and up to 3 adults as members of the Council.  Info and Application Packet

Here is the May/June issue of Connections, another of New Covenant's publications published every other month. It is also posted at the bottom of the home page of the presbytery website.

Needed: Wheels!
Are you blessed with a large church van or bus that is not used much during the week? Would you consider loaning it to a fellow Presbyterian Church in need? John Knox Presbyterian is seeking a way to transport up to 50 children and adults on local mission field trips at least three days, August 5-7, as part of the church's Summer Mission Camp. They have several CDL-licensed members who are willing to drive. If your church would consider loaning your bus or van for even one day, to transport even some of the kids, that would be a huge help. Contact Pastor Becky Downs (713-462-5448) if you can help. Thank you, Presbytery!
Summer internships at Northwoods
Northwoods Presbyterian has 3 paid internships available for this summer: 2 for Youth Ministry and 1 for Children's Ministry - from June 1 through Aug. 10. The church is currently scheduling interviews, so time is of the essence! Applications should be emailed to Lauren Reitzammer, Director of Children's Ministries, and Ryan Reitzammer, Director of Youth Ministries.
Young Friends of CanCare Crawfish Boil
Young adults (and anyone over age 21) are invited to join the Young Friends of CanCare at a crawfish boil to support CanCare Sat., Apr. 26, 2:00 p.m. at Jackson's Watering Hole (1205 Richmond Ave.) Come prepared for an afternoon of live music, all-you-can-eat crawfish, ice-cold beverages, a premier silent auction, and an exquisite wine raffle! Have fun while supporting a great cause! Information about sponsorship opportunities or ticket purchase. Questions? Contact Mark Downs.
Continuing Education from the Near East School of Theology
The Near East School of Theology (a protestant seminary in Beirut, Lebanon) runs a 12-week Pastors Sabbatical Program biannually, an ecumenical and inter-religious continuing education program. The next one runs mid-September to mid-December 2014. For the coming session, one of N.E.S.T.'s partner churches has offered up to 2 scholarships for pastors from anywhere around the world to participate in this program. If you are interested, contact George Sabra, President and Professor of Systematic Theology, as soon as possible. Brochure
