Discipleship Thoughts

No one should be surprised at the difficulty of faith, if there is some part of his life where he is consciously resisting or disobeying the commandment of Jesus. Is there some part of your life which you are refusing to surrender at his behest, some sinful passion, some animosity, some hope, perhaps your ambition or your reason? ... How can you hope to enter into communion with him when at some point in your life you are running away from him?"

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Kevin Keaton's words of encouragement to all pastors
It's Lent. You are busy and tired. There is so much to do! I know; I have been there. I discovered the Lenten Marathon might be run with the knowledge that just a week or two after Easter, I would find renewal and restoration at the Clergy Retreat. You can rest assured that this year's retreat, Apr. 29-May 1, will be overflowing with good food, fellowship, deep rest, and nurture of your soul!

Michael Lindvall will be rejoining us (he guided the first clergy retreat!); his stories will touch you. I shall be there, too, to consult with plan members about questions and issues. And I assure you that there will be good Community Coffee as well as caf au lait! Allow yourself to be blessed by the Clergy Retreat! Register by Fri., Apr. 18. Contact Carrie Walker.

A spiritual gathering for women
Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston will present A Spiritual Gathering for Women Thurs., Apr. 24, 6:30-9:00 p.m. at Arya Samaj of Greater Houston, 14375 Schiller Rd., Houston 77082. The gathering will be hosted by the lovely women of the Arya Samaj who will tell us all about their Hindu faith and traditions. Arya Samaj emphasizes the belief and worship of One Supreme Almighty (AUM) and the infallible Authority of the Vedas. Arya Samaj adherents work diligently to address the crucial issue of education for all people in India through its network of schools known by the name of Dayanand Anglo Vedic (DAV). The movement and its followers strongly support and promote the equality of all human beings and women's empowerment in society. Heartfelt thanks!
The guest teacher for the Pinecrest Presbyterian's PW April Bible Study was the Rev. Dr. Rose E. Niles, Development Officer for Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She is also a contributing writer for the Horizons Study Guide. Dr. Niles' presentation was very engaging, enlightening and encouraging. Thank you, Dr. Niles!
