In Our Prayers

 

The congregation of Heights Presbyterian, Houston - dealing with the aftermath of a fire that burned out the educational building of the church. Neither the sanctuary nor the office building was affected by the flames, although there is smoke damage in the sanctuary. The fire has been determined to be accidental, caused by an electrical problem.

 

Charles Kelly - Charles will be ordained Sun., Apr. 6, 2:00 p.m. at St. Philip Presbyterian, Houston. All are invited to attend.

 

TE Margaret Desmond and family - Margaret's brother, Jimmy Desmond, died recently. Margaret is pastor of Trinity Presbyterian, Post Neches.

 

Greg Davis - Greg will be ordained Sat., Apr. 12, 4:00 p.m. at San Pablo+Trinity, Houston.

 

Sandra Lopez, Assistant for Finance and Administration - Last week Sandra had her purse snatched from her while pumping gas. Praise God Sandra was not hurt.

 
TE Charles and Randee Teykl - Randee will have back surgery Apr. 7 at Baylor Grapevine Hospital. Charles (HR) is a former pastor of First Presbyterian, Rosenberg.

The two recent church fires in our presbytery (Wharton and Heights) are reminders to check that your church insurance payments are up to date, that your church records are duplicated, and that disaster plans have been made. ROCO celebrates France!
Grace Presbyterian Church's Artist Series presents the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in concert Sun., Apr. 6, 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary with guest conductor Alastair Willis, featuring ROCO's principal bassoonist Kristin Wolfe Jensen. Community Collection program in Bryan

First Presbyterian Church, Bryan, presents another Concert on Carter Creek with the ever-popular annual Community Collection program. Featuring professional musicians who live and work in Bryan/College Station, the 2014 Community Collection will be presented on Sun., Apr. 6, 5:00 p.m., at the church with music by Bach, Brahms and Debussy. Free admission, parking, and childcare.

The Georges Presentation on South Sudan
Jacob and Aliamma George, PC(USA) Mission Co-workers in South Sudan, will speak Wed., Apr. 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Woodlands Community Presbyterian, room 301 in Hendricks Building (behind the sanctuary building, at the back of the campus). The Georges train the pastors of The Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and do Community Health Evangelism. Due to the current situation there, the Georges are in the U.S. through April. We are pleased to have them tell their story and update us on the people and the country.

Our Magnificent Universe
You are invited to St. Andrew's Presbyterian, Houston, for an evening lecture by Dr. Jennifer Wiseman, astronomer and astrophysicist, Sat., Apr. 12, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Dr. Wiseman will speak as a continuing part of the church's Science and Christianity series. Modern telescopes are revealing more beauty and complexity in the Universe than ever known before, including the discovery of exoplanets. Innumerable galaxies with colorful nebulae and countless planets illuminate a cosmic history spanning over 12 billion years in time.
 
What do our cosmic discoveries tell us about ourselves and our place in the universe? Come hear Dr. Jennifer Wiseman talk about the interface between our religious beliefs and science. 
Energize, sing, pray, and play!
Pines Presbyterian, Houstonis hosting a youth rally for Middle School and High School students, #BigSteadyLove, Sat., Apr. 26, 4:30-8:30 p.m. The event will be led by the Activators, a group of college students from Austin College. It will be an exciting evening with music, fun activities, some great learning, and a chance for youth to meet others and make friends with churches in our Presbytery. The#BigSteadyLove  event and dinner are free.

Take part in the March of Remembrance!
On Sat., Apr. 26, and Sun., Apr. 27, people of faith in communities around the Houston area will march in remembrance of the Holocaust and will do so to say 'we will not be silent.' The message of the marches is reconciliation, as well as the restoration and healing of relationships between the descendants of the perpetrators and those of the victims.
