New Chiefs!
The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas inaugurated new tribal chiefs in a ceremony on Chiefs Day, Jan. 1. Inaugurated as Principal Chief of the Alabama Coushatta tribe was Mikko Choba III Fain Sylestine, an Elder in the Indian Village Presbyterian Church located on the reservation. Both he and Second Chief, Herbert Johnson, Sr. (installed as Mikko Atokla), are members of the Presbyterian Church.
General Presbyter Mike Cole attended the ceremony and reports that he learned a lot about the history and symbolism of the ceremony, which increased his appreciation of our Presbyterian roots with this tribe.
