 | REVIVAL THOUGHTS |
Revivals begin with God's own people; the Holy Spirit touches their heart anew and gives them new fervor and compassion, and zeal, new light and life, and when He has thus come to you, He next goes forth to the valley of dry bones...Oh, what responsibility this lays on the Church of God! If you grieve Him away from yourselves, or hinder His visit, then the poor perishing world suffers sorely!
- Andrew A. Bonar

Helping hurting people cope with the holidays
You are invited to attend the "Tidings of Comfort and Joy" service on Sun., Dec. 8, at First Presbyterian, Alvin, at 6:00 p.m. The holidays can be a very difficult time for people who are grieving the death of a loved one, the death of a relationship, or even the death of a pet. Other struggles in life can also make this season of celebration difficult - job loss, health struggles, mental health issues, loneliness, the list goes on.
The worship service is unique in that it seeks to give space and time for loss in the midst of celebration. In this service, quiet songs and contemplative readings offer support and strength for the journey through the holiday season. Help spread the word to those who might wish to attend such a service.

Lay Chaplain training event
Sacred moments happen in the hospital, and you may be the person listening and observing God's love for his people. Lay chaplains are trained to hold those moments with people as they cope with being in the hospital. A lay chaplain's focus is on what the patient would like to share, whether it is where they played baseball, their hopes for their children, or the many spiritual questions that arise during challenges of diagnoses and health maintenance.
Presbyterian Outreach to Patients (POP) will hold Lay Pastor Training Sat., Dec. 14, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Adult Library at First Presbyterian, Houston. There is a real need for lay chaplains in the hospitals all around this great city! Lunch provided. Cost: $25, including materials. Contact AnnMarie Wallace, Director of POP Ministry, to confirm your attendance.

Evaluate your church's stewardship
What makes a church financially healthy? Find out in about 10 minutes where you're going tomorrow, by learning where you are today. It's not the amount of money in the offering plate each week, or the number of fundraisers held each year. It's a variety of factors that differs from church to church - and your personalized Financial Health Assessment shows you which are the right ones to improve your church's stewardship, based on your unique circumstances.
A free and simple online tool, the Financial Health Assessment, analyzes your stewardship culture and produces an instant report of your church's giving health. Clear and honest, the report reveals gaps in your fundraising program and even provides guidelines to help make your church's giving impact even greater. Your free Financial Health Assessment comes from the Presbyterian Foundation.
