Presbytery's Outreach Committee has endorsed a special initiative to fund a Peacemaking Ministry Associate in Jerusalem as a part of our effort toward peacemaking in the world. This bulletin insert offers a brief explanation and we commend it for use on World Communion Sun., Oct. 6, if you receive a Peacemaking or other special offering.

Spotlight on the PC(USA)
The PC(USA) has mission workers in 14 different "security countries" in the Middle East and across South Asia where the local context does not permit public confirmation of their presence. Egypt, South Sudan, Niger, Jordan, Palestine, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand/Myanmar, Philippines and other countries are all places the PC(USA) has mission workers or is currently recruiting them. Freedom: A Concert to Free the Captives
Webster Presbyterian presents poet and artist, Anya Ezhevskaya, who will perform her original poetry and will create three pieces of art before our very eyes! All proceeds from the Sat., Oct. 12 concert benefit Free the Captives, a nonprofit, anti-human trafficking organization that fights the exploitation and trafficking of Houston's youth. Webster Presbyterian musicians also will perform. The three paintings will be auctioned off. Tickets are $10 at the door. Doors open with a dessert reception at 6:15 p.m. Concert begins at 7:00 p.m. |

Ken Medema comes to the Woodlands!
Ken Medema, composer-singer-songwriter known for his live improvisations, will lead songs in worship at Woodlands Community Presbyterian, at both the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services Sun., Oct. 13. There will be a concert with the Woodlands Community choir and band at 6:00 p.m. that evening. |
Glory to God: The Presbyterian Hymnal
The new hymnal published by PC(USA) is arriving in congregations throughout the country. Glory to God includes 853 hymns drawn from across the centuries and reflects diverse rhythms and styles. The volume (which is the same thickness and weight as The Presbyterian Hymnal 1990) also includes some liturgical resources.
Single copies are available for checkout NOW in the Resource Center for congregations that may be curious about this rich new resource for congregational song.

Grand Lakes Presbyterian, Katy, is seeking a full time Director of Children's Ministries. This individual will create and implement a Christ-centered, "invite-a-friend" children's ministry program that inspires children (and in turn their families) to attend all Sunday school activities, special events, and programs.

Seasons of Caring Luncheon
Interface-Samaritan Counseling Centers will hold their annual Seasons of Caring Luncheon Thurs., Oct. 17, 11:30 a.m. at River Oaks Country Club. This year the luncheon will honor Dan Schewe (Northwoods PC, Houston), Peggy and Gary Edwards (Chapelwood United Methodist Church, Houston), and; James A. Sales (Catholic). Speaking will be Chris Ayres, a combat-wounded veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and his wife Renee. Don't miss their powerful and enlightening testimony about the miracle of God's grace amidst the chaos of war and its aftermath.
