TE Leigh Wisner-Hargis and Mitch Hargis, First Presbyterian, Texas City - a son, Jonah Luke, was born Sept. 17.

 

Keatan King and the congregation of St. Philip Presbyterian, Houston - Keatan will be ordained and installed as a Teaching Elder at St. Philip Presbyterian, Houston, Sun., Sept. 29, at 4:00 p.m.

  

TE Don Landis, HR, and his wife Joyce Ann - Joyce Ann is in Austin Lake Hospital; she has been sick with early stage dementia/Alzheimer's. Rev. Landis is a member of this presbytery, now living in Round Rock.

(First Presbyterian, Houston) and family - Paul's father, Howard Charles Homeyer, died Sept. 17. Howard was a member of MDPC. His wife Dorothy is an elder and member of MDPC.

Don't miss Celebrate Mission 2013!

Everyone is invited to attend presbytery's Celebrate Mission Sat., Oct. 5, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian, Houston. It's a networking opportunity to talk with others about ideas for short-term mission opportunities and see displays about mission projects in our presbytery.

 

There's still time to make a reservation for lunch ($6) - deadline Sat., Sept. 28. Make reservations online or contact Carrie Walker.

Session Records Review and Treasurer's Workshop

It's not too late to register for this coming Saturday's events at First Presbyterian, Bryan. Contact Lynn Hargrove if you plan to attend the records review, which starts at 10:00 a.m., or Forbes Baker for the treasurer's workshop, which starts at 9:30 a.m.

As a retired PC(USA) pastor and a former moderator of this presbytery, TE Pat Clark invites all Presbyterian women teaching elders to her home (3114 Carnegie St. 77005 in West University) Tues., Oct. 8, for lunch and a time to get to know one another better. (Lunch at noon). You don't need to bring anything, but please RSVP by Sun., Oct. 6 to let Pat know if you are coming.

Blessing of the Animals

Prayers of blessings will be spoken and songs of praise will be lifted in the courtyard of St. John's Presbyterian, Houston, honoring our animal friends Sun., Oct. 6, at 4:00 p.m. A reception will follow with treats for everyone - animals and humans. Donations for the Fill the Ark project (for Heifer International) and AniMeals on Wheels will be accepted.

Music at St. Philip Concert for Peace

Music at St. Philip Concert Series presents the Concert for Peace Sat., Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. It features poetry by Laurie Clements Lambeth and Hayan Charara and music by jazz pianist and composer Paul English with vocalist April Sloan-Hubert and soprano Julia Fox, PIVO (Paul's Improvising Vocal Orchestra), the St. Philip Choir, and much more! A portion of the offering received will support the humanitarian efforts of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for Syrian refugees.

Church archives workshop
"Preserving Generations of Faith," a one-day workshop for those who work with historical records but are not trained archivists, will be presented Tues., Oct. 15, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at St. John the Divine Episcopal. The workshop will be an introduction to the basic elements of archives will assist attendees in gaining control over their church records. Conducted by professional archivists, the workshop will include lecture, discussion, hands-on activities, and the opportunity to ask questions of people who have experience with church records and archives.
