TE Thomas Estes, former pastor at Covenant, College Station - Thomas was hospitalized July 9 for heart difficulty.
Family and friends of TE Alfred Gwynn Severin - Alfred died July 8. Services will be held at Clear Lake Presbyterian, Houston, Sat., July 20, at 10:00 a.m. Al was a member of Presbytery of New Covenant in the 70s and early 80s, and most recently a member of the presbytery in Austin.

When the winds of a renewal have passed, the Church may enter a period of lethargy, possibly for many years. Such cycles have already been repeated many times during the 2,000 years of Church history. It is not that the Spirit of God cannot sustain the higher life for Christians; rather, the Spirit allows times of decline to cause His people to pray for growth and for power.

Submitting an overture to General Assembly
The 221st General Assembly of the PC(USA) will meet in June 2014, which seems like a long time away. However, if you are considering submitting an overture, the process should begin now. Here is a link to the process.
There is a timeline by which documents need to be submitted to the General Assembly. For amendments to the Book of Order, submission must be by Feb. 14, 2014. For items with financial implications, the date is Apr. 15. For any other overture, submission must be by Apr. 30. Remember that an overture must be voted on by the presbytery. Our next stated meeting is Nov. 9, and our first in 2014 will be Mar. 22. Please plan accordingly! For more information, contact Lynn Hargrove. |

Welcome home, Mary!
Mary Marcotte writes: It's good to be back! Today marks my official return from the 3-month Sabbatical graciously given to me by the presbytery. I'm grateful for many things: the gift of time away for personal rest and spiritual renewal, the colleagues on the New Covenant's staff who carried a heavier load during my time away, the outstanding work of the committees I staff which give testimony to the activity of the Holy Spirit in our midst, and the social media greetings I continued to receive in my absence.
