Some of the best impulses for social reform in America's history have come from awakenings. The anti-slavery movement in America was mainly a part of the reform movement generated by the Second Great Awakening, as were movements for prison reform, child labor laws, women's rights, inner-city missions, and many more.

The theme of our 2013 presbytery meetings is
"Revival." In keeping with that theme,
Tuesday Connect is running "Revival Thoughts"
on a weekly basis.

You are invited to help shape the Presbyterian Church's future peacemaking ministry. Our denomination is in a season of discerning what direction God is calling us in these days and in the years ahead, and St. Philip Houston, along with other churches across the country, is hosting a Peace Discernment Retreat under the auspices of our national church leadership Sat., May 18, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. All interested persons are invited to attend and work through material to help us "encounter the gospel of peace anew."

Our guide through this process will be Meg Scott Johnson, a St. Philip ruling elder who has earned a diploma in the art of spiritual direction and presented spiritual discernment basics to church school classes, retreats, and a pastor nominating committee. Snacks will be provided. Call the church (713-622-4807) by May 10 to RSVP.
