FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
 ~ March 8, 2017 ~

Greetings!
ADRIANA CRUZ

PRESIDENT

SXSW? We're turning the attention South of SX this year!

This is an exciting time to be in the Austin and San Marcos region. In my years here in the area, I've always had a sense of spring coming with the crisp new air that blows through bringing in the SXSW vibe. From the tech innovators to the movie makers, angel investors to music dreamers, the hundreds of thousands of registered attendees of the globally recognized conference and festival will all be on our doorstep next week.

If you're out and about experiencing SXSW, we hope you'll stop by the TXST Innovation Lab and the GSMP booth at the Interactive Trade Show. We ask that you help us tell the Greater San Marcos story during SXSW using #SouthofSX.

Speaking of innovation, by now you may have noticed our new website! We are proud of the new look and usability of the site and expect it to become a major source of lead generation and marketing for us going forward. Please send us any edits - we strive to be the best but we admit we're human and somethings may need a tweak.

Thank you for your continued support and please continue to let me or anyone on our team know how we can be of assistance to you.

Onward & upward!

sofsx2017 South By Southwest:
We're bringing the #SouthofSX to SXSW!
Team GSMP and our regional partners are heading to SXSW to share the Greater San Marcos story to the global attendees visiting SXSW. Last year, nearly 140,000 attendees were registered to attend SXSW. Now in its 31st year, the festival and conference supports local employment and helps attract innovative companies across a myriad of industries, which can create middle and high skilled jobs.

Keep up with us using #SouthofSX!

Community Engagement: Cottage Kitchen Friday Lunch and Great Texas River Clean Up

Two of our favorite opportunities each year is hosting the Friday Lunch at Cottage Kitchen, which benefits The Heritage Association of San Marcos, and the Annual Great Texas River Clean Up.

Last Friday, Team GSMP hosted a community tradition, the Friday Lunch at Cottage Kitchen. A big thank you to our partners, Palmer's Restaurant, Bar & Courtyard, and Root Cellar Cafe & Brewery, for once again helping us to provide a great meal! We couldn't do it without our much appreciated volunteers, Olivia Juarez-Reid (Wells Fargo), Caren Williams-Murch (Trace/Highpointe Communities), and John Schott (Frost Bank). With everyone's support, we were able to host 74 guests last Friday!

Then on Saturday, Team GSMP sponsored the Annual Great Texas River Clean Up. It's always a pleasure to take care of this beautiful natural asset that makes our community such a great place to live. Thanks to the City of San Marcos for their leadership of the clean up!

Site Selection Magazine: Texas Wins Governor's Cup
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott claims his third Governor's Cup for 642 qualified projects in 2016. This is the Lone Star State's fifth consecutive cup win. Texas' winning streak began when it wrested first place from Ohio in 2009. Including for its 515 projects in 2016, the Buckeye State has placed second in total projects ever since.

Site Selection Magazine's Annual Governor's Cup reflects yearly project totals as tracked by the Conway Projects Database. Qualifying projects must meet one or more of these criteria for inclusion in the database: a minimum capital investment of $1 million, 20 or more new jobs created, and 20,000 or more square feet of new space.
