County Board Approves Balanced Budget that Focuses on the Future
The Lake County Board recently adopted the 2015 budget. The budget is balanced and reflects a very modest 2.88% increase from last year, which is the result of a slowly improving economy and increasing demand for more services and infrastructure improvements. The county board adheres to a basic budget principle - don't make short-term decisions. For example, the FY2015 budget continues to invest in our infrastructure, including our transportation system. It also includes funds for the critical courts expansion and invests in County facilities to ensure they are in good condition for the future. Other decisions that will benefit the County for the long-term include investments in preventative services. We also continue to focus on operational efficiencies, shared services, and governmental collaboration. To learn more, visit our newly enhanced budget portal and click on our transparency tabs.

5 Budget Takeaways
  1. We have a balanced budget at $502 Million.
  2. We have AAA bond rating--the highest rating possible.
  3. The number of employees is down 12% from eight years ago.
  4. Only 1.4% of the budget goes to debt service.
  5. We are using data-driven decision making to ensure we are spending wisely, and identifying and implementing efficiency measures.

The Lake County Treasurer's Office is alerting homeowners to a scam targeting seniors. Seniors are receiving a letter in the mail claiming that the County will take their house if they don't pay the delinquent taxes on their property. In each of the cases we've seen so far, the homeowner is paid in full and NOT delinquent in their taxes. If you receive one of these letters, you do not need to take any action if your taxes have been paid in full. If you have any questions or want to double check the status of your payment, you should call the Treasurer's Office at 847.377.2323 or check on line at www.lakecountyil.gov/treasurer
