Commonwealth's Basketball Dominance Dances into Dallas

Celebrating Kentucky and what it means to be a Colonel!  That's a full day right there, and that's what we're doing with the April Newsletter from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.  If you see something interesting in this month's edition, please forward it to your friends...even the ones who don't hold the highest civilian honor the Governor of the Commonwealth can bestow----The Title of Kentucky Colonel!
My Ol' Kentucky Home is...Wherever They're Playing the Final Four!
Indiana's Lucas Oil Stadium hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional Final between UK & Michigan. A crowd of 35,551 saw Kentucky claim it's 3rd Final Four berth in 4 years.
Many states claim to be the "Home of College Basketball."  Over the last four years, that title has taken up residence in the Commonwealth.

The universities of Kentucky and Louisville have placed five teams into the last four Final Four events.  That's as many as Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana, and Connecticut combined!

NCAA Mens' Final Four Appearances 2011-14

  • Kentucky (5) UK: 2011, 2012, 2014. UL: 2012, 2013.
  • Connecticut (2) UConn: 2011, 2014.
  • Kansas (2) KU: 2012, Wichita State: 2013.
  • Indiana (1) Butler: 2011.

Crafty Colonel Spring Cleaning Tip: Don't Paint the Walls. Just Add Water!
As you strategize all your spring cleaning chores, we may be able to strike "painting" off the Colonel's honey-do list!
Carl Minchew, Director of Product Development at Benjamin Moore, says before you invest in paint, try to tackle taking marks off your walls with a clean cloth or sponge and water.
Stubborn stains may require a small amount of dishwashing detergent, mild soap, or a commercial cleaner like Formula 409.  Each of those is cheaper than paint!
Minchew says whatever you use to remove the stain, make certain you rinse the wall with plain ol' water.
Colonels Bring Hope to Those in Need of Help!
Linda Boone,
HOKC Gen Mgr
Your contributions to the Good Works Program of The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels will soon be improving lives and providing hope!
HOKC General Manager Linda Boone says over 300 non-profits requested grant application forms in 2014 from the Honorable Order.
"We'll get requests for grants totaling between $2.5 and three-million-dollars this year," Boone said.
The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels is a membership organization that doesn't have a dues structure.
Instead, The Honorable Order encourages Kentucky Colonels all over the world to make regular contributions to our Good Works Program which distributed nearly two-million dollars to worthy causes in 2013.

Churchill Downs no longer has room to accommodate our Kentucky Colonels get together on the first Saturday in May.

So, we've partnered with QuintEvents to develop 2014 Kentucky Oaks and Derby Day packages exclusively for our members.

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels will continue to host the Fall Event at Churchill Downs.  The HOKC reception will be staged on Friday Nov 7th with race day on Saturday Nov 8th.  We'll start taking reservations for the Fall Event later this summer.

If you want Derby Day tickets this year---and for the foreseeable future--please contact Churchill Down directly or click onto Kentucky Colonels Derby Weekend Packages.

Thanks for your interest in connecting with other Kentucky Colonels.

You are appreciated!
