Mayor's Update: Trails Day in Sumner

Mayor and Mrs. Enslow biking the Sumner Link Trail
This Saturday is National Trails Day, and it's a great reason to try out--or enjoy again--the Sumner Link Trail.  I know this is not the Pacific Crest Trail or the Wonderland Trail, but it is a great 5.5 mile run along the White River that doesn't make you pack up and drive to access. That means that unlike those superstar trails, you can fit this one into a day of errands and housework.

There are also some hidden gems along the way.  You can enjoy beautiful views of the White River that you don't get from driving.  There are a few bridges to cross, and you bike along the 100+acres owned by the City and leased to Mosby Farms for farming.  You can even bring along some food for a picnic.  The City has tables and even barbecue grills at the confluence of the White & Puyallup Rivers and just before the trail goes under 142nd up by SEFNCO.
Trails are important to our community for many reasons.  They make Sumner more livable and improve our quality of life; they improve our economy through tourism; they help preserve open space; and most of all, they provide opportunity for activity that improves our physical and mental health.  Let's hit the trail and really enjoy the beauty we have here in our own town.

Music Off Main Schedule

(Drum roll, please) As it seems we're really headed into summertime, mark your calendars for this year's Music Off Main lineup.  As they say, it's a little bit country, and a little bit rock 'n roll.

Sumner Soccer Club & Sounders U23

We received this note from Sounders U23 about Friday night's game here in Sunset Stadium:

Once again, the Sumner Soccer Club and the U23 Sounders Soccer Team are joining together in a soccer match this spring. Come join the fun as the Sounders team takes on the Lane United team in the Premier Development League. Youth soccer players who wear their Sumner SC Jersey get to participate in all the game night activities (walking out on the field with the U23 Sounders team, participating as ball catchers during the game, and playing in small sided games on the field during half time). It will be a night filled with memories about the great game of soccer. What a great event for the youth in our soccer club.

Seat Belt Emphasis Patrols

In the State of Washington in 2014, a crash occurred every 5 minutes and a person died in a crash every 19 hours.  Many of those fatalities would have been preventable if seat belts were worn.  Sumner Police are conducting special emphasis patrols right now for seat belt enforcement, but believe us, if you drive or ride without a seat belt, a ticket is the least of your worries.
