Last week, Sumner was pleased to have the Daffodil Valley Volkssport Association enjoy the Sumner Link Trail.  Forty-two walkers completed a 10K volksmarch or a 5K walk.  New signs, benches and other amenities are going up this autumn.  Click here for information to start your own adventure on the Sumner Link Trail.
Mayor's Update: Designing a Vision

You're going to start to see a new logo around town.  Over the years, we've been working on Sumner's branding and messaging.  You've seen the Rhubarb Pie Capital logos, the Come On In graphics and most recently, the Open in Sumner graphic as we prepare for the U.S. Open.

It became clear to us that one logo was not keeping pace with these beautiful depictions of Sumner: the City logo.  The daffodil logo has served us well for 10 years now, and while it's beautiful, it doesn't really match the City's vision to set the standard of excellence for a progressive small city.  The logo seemed to be looking fondly backward while we were trying to move forward.  Given that, we now have a new logo for City government that you'll start seeing used.  We think this is a great update that really reflects Sumner's dual role as preserving what's best while moving forward.

You'll still see the old logo as we use up old stock.  We're too cheap to just order all new everything.  But, the transition has begun.  While we invite the Sumner community to use the Come On In graphics in your own materials, this logo below will be just for City use.  If you need to show the City's involvement in a partnership, contact Carmen Palmer, our communications director, for the new logo and information on how to use it correctly.

Only Rain Down the Drain

In order to keep our streams clean, we have to remember that only rain goes down the drain, our storm drains, that is.  After all, they bypass the Wastewater Treatment Facility and flow right into the Puyallup River, White River, and Salmon Creek; so dumping oil or paint into them is the same as dumping it right into the streams.  Soon, you'll see these buttons above storm drains to give a final reminder of where these drains go.  As part of their Eagle Scout project, local teens will help install the "buttons" above drains around town.
Sumner has used stencils before, but this is the first time using our own "button," designed just for the Sumner community.  Learn more about Sumner's stormwater and what you can do to help keep our streams clean.

Cityvision Touts Sumner Trails

Cityvision, the state-wide magazine of the Association of Washington Cities, touted Sumner's work on trails in its recent issue.

Filming in Loyalty Park

On Tuesday, September 9, a film crew will be using Loyalty Park throughout the day to film a TV commercial.  Although the park will remain open, key structures like the play equipment will likely be unavailable that day.  If you're planning a party for that day, you may want to use Rainier View Park instead.  Meanwhile, the shoot is donating funding to the City to support future improvements in the park, and we all will get to see Sumner on TV.

City Offices Closed Labor Day

All City Offices will be closed on Monday, September 1, for Labor Day.  The City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 2, at 7:00 pm.
