Mayor's Update: Rhubarb Pie & the 4th of July
One of the more fun duties for Mayor Enslow is welcoming Music Off Main, which last year turned into a dance party in the park.

While most people will tell you that working with government can be a challenge, I can tell you that working in government is often challenging as well.  You sometimes have to tell people things they don't want to hear. ("No, sir, you can't light those fireworks off at 1 am.")  You sometimes have to deal with people the worst crises moments of their life.  And, you get to try to understand a lot of complex topics with languages all their own.  Do you know what it means to obtain an ILA for the ULID in the MIC?

But, I don't think government has ever been easy.  I'm positive that every one of our founding patriots would have preferred to be somewhere else--anywhere else--than cooped up in Independence Hall in Philadelphia in July.  (Remember, they didn't have air conditioning... or modern plumbing and sewer systems.)  But, they stayed out of a sense of responsibility, and they built this nation literally with their sweat and tears.

That dedication and commitment is quite a wonderful thing to celebrate.  If you're looking for a musical way to celebrate the holiday, Music Off Main begins right on the 4th of July with William and Mary providing appropriately enough, country and bluegrass tunes.  After that, we roll right into more events of the six-week Rhubarb Pie Festival including Golf for Life and Rhubarb Days.  I love the events, music and food, but please take a moment to silently thank our founders for literally sweating it out to begin the America we know and love.

Puyallup Bridge Closure

Over in Puyallup, WSDOT will be shutting down the Highway 167 bridges over the Puyallup River on Meridian the weekend of July 11.  Although not in Sumner, this closure will affect traffic and routes for a lot of Sumner residents as well as the region.  WSDOT will close both north- and south-bound on Meridian at 9 pm on Friday, July 11, and expect to reopen the route on Sunday, July 13, at 2 pm.  WSDOT has identified alternate routes, but you will want to allow more time than usual to travel this route.

Click here for more details from WSDOT.

We're thankful that WSDOT is getting us information to pass along to you.  If you have further questions, please contact WSDOT directly for the best information: Brenden Clarke, Project Manager, 360-357-2606, or Claudia Bingham Baker, Communications Manager, 360-357-2789.
