City Hall joined all the businesses and homes in Sumner that are proudly demonstrating their Seahawks 12th Man pride. A City employee lent his personal 12th Man flag to temporarily fly at City Hall this week.
Mayor's Update: Try Being a Police Officer
Mayor Enslow swears in a new police officer.  Get to know how the Sumner Police Department works by joining the Citizens Academy.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer?  Let me tell you, a ride-along for a few hours is an eye-opening experience.  The rest of us have little idea what they see and do throughout our town every day, despite all the fictional television shows and "reality" shows that claim to depict law enforcement.  By the way, real police never get DNA test results back over a 2-minute commercial break.

A wonderful opportunity to learn about what our police do is coming again to Sumner: the Police Citizens Academy.  This is when our police department puts a lot of time and effort into showing you just what their world is like.  You visit the jail (only on a temporary basis); you get to fire a gun at the range; and you even get to drive a police car.  Learn what it's like to use K-9s or a SWAT team.  Best of all, you can do all of this for free.

I really hope you think about joining the 2014 Citizens Academy.  It will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights, February 25-March 25.  Last time we held the Academy, we had people of all ages who lived or worked in Sumner.  One couple even used it as their "date night."  It's easy to sign up through our website.  You just have to be over 18, live or work in Sumner and pass a background check.  Think about joining us to get a first-hand experience of law and order that goes above and beyond even the most "real" television show.

Shape Sumner's Future

Comprehensive Plan Survey

Every 10 years, the City rewrites the Comprehensive Plan, which is basically the City's master plan for the future. The Plan looks out 10-20 years and decides what Sumner is going to become in the future.

Your thoughts are important to point the direction for Sumner's future. From surveys directed Sumner to retain its small-town atmosphere, to get a community center/YMCA, and to place a priority on a walkable community with sidewalks and trails. These are all underway. Now, what's next?

To Take the Survey:

Please fill out the questions as completely as possible. It should only take about 5-10 minutes.  Please complete the survey by February 15, 2014.  The survey is available online from the City's homepage, and paper copies are available at City Hall and in your next City utility bill.  Or, you can simply begin now by clicking here
