There is so much going on in Sumner these days that I worry you won't have time to read it all. I'll try to give a quick update on the highlights from last week:
Highway 167
On April 19, I represented Sumner at the Port of Tacoma, where Governor Inslee was discussing the SR 167/509 Puget Sound Gateway Project. I think we need 167 to finally be completed, but I also worry that if Sumner isn't vocal enough, regional leaders will focus just on the missing link and miss the mess on the existing stretch through Sumner that needs updating. I'm continuing to bring up that concern with State and regional leaders.
Fred Meyer Planting Event
On Saturday, I stopped by the Fred Meyer basket planting. That's quite an event! It was great to talk with gardeners about their plans and projects. Whether you get your flowers there or at McLendons or Windmill Gardens or Woodland Park Nursery, all of you gardeners help make Sumner really shine. Thank you for putting your green thumbs to work for beautiful neighborhoods.
Daffodil Festival
I can't thank you enough for braving the rain to come enjoy the Daffodil Parade in Sumner. It was a great time, and the floats were as beautiful and the bands as magnificent as if it was a perfectly sunny day. A huge congratulations goes to Jackie Bechtold's float group for winning the Grand Sweepstakes prize. Sumner's float had over 17,000 daffodils! Thank you to the 593rd Sustainment Brigade for marching in our parade, and of course to the Sumner Marching Band for truly displaying the magic of music.
Sumner Marching Band
Speaking of which, the City Council and I presented Joe Carl and the Sumner High School Marching Band with a key to the city and proclamation, thanking them for their wonderful contributions to Sumner. You can read the full Proclamation here or click here to watch the presentation at the start of our Council meeting on Monday.
