"Dogs love snow. So, in the wake of the Polar Vortex and blizzard season, we asked experts the burning question: why do dogs love snow so much? Stanley Coren, a scientist and Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and expert in canine psychology, said that many dogs love snow in the way that a toddler loves snow -- it's simply fun to play with." https://www.thedodo.com/mystery-solved-why-dogs-love-t-398900003.html |

This looks like a very interesting course and the website is full of some good information!
Online Course Managing Genetics For The Future
For many breeds of purebred dog, the list of genetic disorders that must be managed by breeders is getting longer and longer. What can breeders do to prevent these genetic problems from developing, and what needs to be done to get them under control? Breeding strategies to reduce the risk of genetic disorders in a litter of puppies (e.g. by not mating 2 carriers of a gene determined by a DNA test) might be at odds with what would be in the best interests of the breed population as a whole. The ability to produce healthy puppies for generations into the future is going to depend on how well the gene pool is managed. This course looks at the nature of breeds, and at how particular breeding strategies can shape the genetic future of a breed and degrade the quality of the gene pool over time. We will discuss strategies for maintaining a healthy gene pool in small or rare breeds, how to rescue lines in danger of going extinct, and how breeders can work together to benefit both their individual breeding programs as well as the quality and health of the breed.
