Minis at the USDAA Agility Nationals!

Details!

USDAA Nationals were held in Morgan Hill, CA the week of Oct 16 -Oct 19th. The week was brisk in the morning for walk thru's that started at 6:40am, with 6 rings going from 8am till 4pm or 5pm. The goal was to get to finals, which means you had to Qualify in Quarter Finals, or if you held a Bye from a Regionals, then you moved to Semi Finals, and then only the top dogs got to go to Finals. Included in the Nationals were also, Dock diving, Barn Hunt, and Lure Courseing as well as the Agility.

On Friday night the Finals for Performance Grand Prix were held that took the top dogs from each of their heights. Saturday night were the Finals for Performance Speed Jumping, and the Finals for Champion Steeplechase. Sunday concluded the Grand Prix and the Biathon. If you weren't able to go, you had an option to watch the Live stream which focused on the main ring all week.

There was a Team event going on through the week as well, which included, Standard, Jumpers, Gamblers, and Snooker and if you were in the top 30 overall you got to go to finals. There were over 120+ teams in each Performance and Championship. And if that wasn't enough, there was also a Master Challenge Standard, and jumpers to complete the Biathon.

During the week I saw many mini's running, 4 of those Mini's made it to the Finals in their height division. Icyhot, Piper, Cobolt, and Harper. Maya finished in the top 8 in the Biathon. Little Dude was not entered in agility, but showcased his Dock Diving Skills. There were mini puppies there to cheer on the dogs, Spicee, Bizzy, and Caboose and they had a great time. I probably missed someone, but it was hard to watch everything....

Rockin R Hope Floats aka Hope (Pockets Take N the Heat x Pockets Keeneye)

Owned and handled by Shelley Geyer of Tulsa, Oklahoma had a really successful AKC obedience and rally trial at Tulsa Dog Training Club October 25 and 26, 2014. We finished our AKC rally novice title that we started in May and got our first leg in Rally Advanced. We also started and finished AKC obedience titles in Beginner Novice, Pre-Novice and Novice. We placed no lower than 2nd in any class we entered (they place to 4 places). The trophies are for the placements in our Novice Classes. Her success at this trial was even more special since we have not done any formal obedience training since early 2012, and have been focusing instead on agility, nosework, and rally. It takes a village and we have a huge one of supporters, folks who give coaching, instructors, other club members, our vet, and of course the women responsible for her being here at all, Ruth Vanderhoof, Gypsy O'Neal and Toni O'Neal Ruggles Thanks so much to everyone!

Using Stockdogs for Low Stress Livestock Handling

by Wally Butler

Interesting article and here is an excerpt........

"Australian shepherds are the youngest of the four

mentioned breeds and were developed, not in Australia
but in the western United States within the last century.
Their working style is not as fixed as the older breeds
with some bloodlines being predominantly headers and
others predominantly heelers. Inbreeding in the early
years resulted in many dogs with blue or mixed eye
coloration. Natural bobbed tails are common. The best
working bloodlines are of medium bone, moderate size
and are agile and very athletic. These dogs work from an
upright stance with varying degrees of eye. "Eye" is a
term that refers to a stare that results in a near hypnotic
spell over livestock. They are highly social dogs that
enjoy the company of their handler."
