Ready to Tackle 2014!
new-year-header.jpg

 This will be fun!!!

What were the highlights from 2013 that you

accomplished with your dogs?

What's your New Year's resolution?

All Photos encouraged!

Send them to me for the Tuesday Talk, Mindy at [email protected]!

Here's Rose Stoebner & Levi testing out their new skijoring equipment.

My highlight for the year dog-wise was definitely getting a herding HIT with Levi!!

2013 was a year of beginnings. New home, job, and town. New venues to play in - Teacup Agility, UKC, and American Herding Breeds Assn. We herded goats and ducks, as well as sheep. New dog clubs and groups - Mindy's BA Herders, 4-Corners Herding Assn, Tulsa Dog Training Club, Companion Dog Club of Tulsa, K9 Manners & More, Obedience Training Club of Bartlesville. New friends! New friends! New friends! I got to go see the Mini American Nationals in OKC; was priviledged to be rally scribe at the AKC Rally Nationals Competition in Tulsa. New dog - Flagtree's Piece of Cake (Cupcake) is like being on a perpetual sugar high!

I look forward to 2014 and it's opportunities. I've already scheduled weight watchers meetings and have orientation at our company fitness center on my calendar. I have a 10-day trip to Houston planned when I can attend 4 days of CPE trials. Cupcake is enrolled in Advanced Beginner Obedience; Mia in Advanced Open Obedience; Bailey and Mia in Weave Poles 2 and Advanced Agility. We'll be working on more agility titles, more advanced herding titles, Mia's RAE2, and I hope to at least get Cupcake's HT, CGC, RN and BN this year. I have a 20 X 30 foot shop to get cleaned out, matted, fitted with water, heat and air for my training room. Hopefully, my skills in grooming improve and I start learning something about conformation.

Good luck, health and fortune to every in 2014!

My Dream's Ruff Rider, "Theo," CGC, CL3, NW1, HIC

Theo has had a banner year:

He moved up from Level 2 to Level 4 in CPE Agility, qualifying him for the 2014 CPE Agility Nationals in Minnesota.
He earned his NW1 Title (NASCW Nosework Level 1) in Missouri. I was so proud of our boy Theo -- He took First Place in Containers and PRONOUNCED FIRST PLACE OVERALL. For any non-nosework folks, this means he had to find an odor (a Qtip soaked with Birch essential oil) hidden in four different locations: Containers (basically a room full of boxes, hence containers), which he found in 9 seconds; an interior room full of equipment; an exterior (25' by 50' foot outside area full of farm equipment, and debris -- the hide was drilled into the cornstalk in the pix); and on a vehicle parked amongst other vehicles. He had 10 minutes total to find all the hides and he did it in 1 minute 19 seconds, making him the top dog overall! (I'm including a pix of him with his ribbons.)
Even with all that hard work, he continues to make us laugh with his talking and smiling!
He truly is a love.

Do you know a young dog lover that may be interested in taking part in dog shows or Junior Showmanship?

Have them take a look at this video!

Former junior handler and AKC Junior Scholarship recipient Allison Kirk gives a great overview of how to get started in Junior Showmanship and the fun young people can have with their dogs in AKC events.

From the December AKC Board Meeting Minutes!

Juniors

The AKC Board VOTED to amend the Herding Regulations, Earthdog Regulations, Regulations for Lure Coursing Tests and Trials, and Regulations for Coursing Ability Tests, to allow clubs holding Herding, Earthdog and Lure Coursing events, at their discretion, to provide lower entry fees for dogs handled by Juniors. A Junior Handler must be younger than 18 years of age. This change becomes effective immediately for events that have not yet published their premium.

and

REGISTRATION TRANSFER FEES for JUNIORS

The Board considered a proposal from the Delegate Parent Clubs Committee to reduce the transfer fee to add or remove a Junior Handler as a co-owner of a dog,

Following discussion, there was a motion by Dr. Battaglia, seconded by Ms. Scully, and it was VOTED (unanimously) to make the transfer fee to add or remove a Junior Handler as a coowner of a dog $10.00, effective February 1, 2014.

Possiblity of us being able to host two shows in one day!!

from the December AKC Board Meeting Minutes

CONFORMATION

Alan Slay and Bri Tesarz, AKC Staff, participated in this portion of the meeting via telephone

conference.

Multiple All-Breed or Limited-Breed Shows in One Day

The Board reviewed a recommendation for a pilot program which will allow clubs with relatively

small entries to hold two shows in one day. There was a motion by, Ms. Cruz, seconded by Mr.

Powers, and it was VOTED (affirmative: Mr. Gladstone, Dr. Newman, Mr. Amen, Mr. Kalter, Mr.

Powers; Mr. Feeney, Mr. Arnold, Dr. Battaglia, Ms. Cruz, Mr. Wooding, Ms. Scully, Mr. Ashby;

opposed: Dr. Garvin) to approve the implementation of the following pilot program which allows

multiple All-Breed or Group shows in one day.

The shows may be held by the same club or multiple clubs. The number of

point shows for an individual breed is limited to two per day. Club(s) may hold

two all-breed shows in one day, two group shows of the same group in one

day, or a combination of all-breed and group shows. Consecutive days of

multiple shows in one day are allowed. After one year of implementation, the

success of the pilot program will be assessed and a report will be presented to

the Board with a recommendation for future shows.

PILOT PROGRAM

The following limitations be placed on this pilot program:

* Available for shows held after May 1, 2014.

* Clubs that had a show of 500 entries or less the previous year are

eligible for the pilot program. Appeals for exceptions will be reviewed

on an individual basis.

* All-breed shows must offer group and best in show competition.

Group shows must offer group competition.

The use of multiple group rings at all-breed shows is encouraged.

* No concurrent or evening specialties may be held in conjunction with

the shows.

* Junior Showmanship competition is allowed.

* Obedience and Rally competitions are allowed, and encouraged, but

must have their own ring(s) for competition.

* Ownership of the corresponding date must be agreed upon in writing

and submitted to AKC prior to event approval if two clubs are holding

the same type of events on the same date & site.

* Clubs that participate in the pilot program will have the right to return

to their original (corresponding) date(s) the following year. Failure to

return to their original date the following year will result in forfeiture of

ownership of the date. Other clubs may use the dates that are

available due to participation in the pilot program, on a one-time

approval basis.
