Never Too Old for Agility! Agility really is a sport for all ages. |
We all see the many junior handlers competing in agility on any given weekend. Junior handlers have been on AKC world teams, competed at the Nationals, and even have their own annual Juniors Agility Competition, held in conjunction with the AKC Agility Invitational. |
|
So how about people that are at the other end of the age spectrum? Can they successfully compete in this wonderful sport? The answer is a resounding yes! We have many "senior handlers" competing in agility, have won Nationals, been on the World Team and most are quite proud of their age.
In order to recognize this wonderful group of exhibitors we need your help. If you are an agility exhibitor and are at least 68 years old, we would like to post a picture of you and your agility dog in a future issue of In The Zone.
Please email all pictures to
bxb@akc.org
IMPORTANT: Please include your name, your age, your dog's name, breed, and the class level at which you are currently competing. Also, please let us know in just a sentence or two why you like competing in agility and/or how this benefits you and your dog. We are so looking forward to hearing from you!
Please pass this information on to all senior handlers that you know; we do not want to leave out anyone who wishes to participate! Thanks for the help.

The Break-Away Tire - not an open and shut case |
|
Effective September 4, 2013, clubs holding AKC agility trials must use a break-away tire in place of the standard tire jump.
However, because we want to look at all options for the break-away tire and come to the best decision possible for the exhibitors, there will be an additional six month review period of the new tire (September 4, 2013 - March 3, 2014). |
|
During this review period the tire may either stay open after a dog has caused the tire to break apart, or the tire may automatically close and reset |
