Kenzie (Makana'a Grace Under Fire) and Nelson (Makanalong Once In a Blue Moon) went to an amusement
park who allows well-behaved, leashed dogs to enjoy the park. It was nice to have a different option for getting dogs out to socialize and we'll for sure use it for puppies in the future. |

INSPECT UPON ARRIVAL
Please check your AKC and your NAMASCUSA registrations papers when they arrive, if there are any errors contact registrar@mascusa.org ASAP. It is much easier to correct papers now then a year or two down the road, and typos are unavoidable so read your papers carefully.
Thank you! |
It is very important to remember to include a copy of your AKC Miniature American Shepherd papers when submitting paperwork to us for processing! |

Wigglebutt Quincy's latest SAR adventure!
Quincy and I, along with our K-9 Search and Rescue team (NCOK9SAR) were invited to participate in Burke Lakefront Airport's disaster drill which is required by the FAA. Our scenario was as follows: Among the burning plane's passengers,(all were made up to look like they had various injuries) two children wondered off while other emergencies were taking place on the airport grounds. We were to find the children quickly, as they both were injured!
There were two K-9 teams, team alpha (our team), was to find a child seen near the airport terminal. Our team consisted of 4 dogs and 4 handlers. The other team, team beta, was to find the other child. The CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) was to follow us, checking that any buildings we might enter were safe. Our team was organized and ready with CERT to follow closely behind. We were fortunate to have a scent article from the child.
Our dogs were given the command to take the scent and proceed to find the lost child. The dogs immediately took off across the tarmac, past the burned plane, past the temporary rescue tent (set up to help the injured), and arrived at the terminal door. We waited for the CERT folks to examine the building, making sure it was safe for us to enter. As soon as it was determined to be safe, the doors were opened and the dogs took off to the right, past several employees, checking rooms and quickly found the lost child huddled inside a cabinet toward the end of the terminal. Quincy led the team and was happy when he found the lost child. We had to stand down until the CERT folks examined the child and carried her off to the first aid tent. Quincy is a remarkable dog, he will be eight years old in November and loves his job! Joan Irwin

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Limited Registration
QUESTION: I purchased a registered dog and I received the registration certificate in
the mail. What does it mean when Limited is printed on the registration?
Answer: Limited means your dog is registered, but the puppies produced by that dog
will not be eligible for the AKC registration. A limited dog cannot be shown in
conformation classes. But it is eligible to enter in any other licensed or member event,
including Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing,
Agility, Rally, and Earthdog.
The breeder of the dog/puppy "marks out" or "cuts out" the 3 numbers in the Limited
box on the application. The limited box should not be marked out or cut out if the dog
is to be fully registered.
Limited Registration certificates have an orange border & the Full Registration certificate
has a purple border.
QUESTION: What if I decide to show my dog in conformation class or breed my dog?
Can this Limited Registration be changed to a Full Registration?
Answer: Yes, a Limited Registration can be changed to a Full Registration, but only by the litter owner of that dog. The litter owner would fill out the Application To Revoke Limited Status form and sent it & the original registration certificate to our Raleigh address with a $25.00 processing fee. Then the dog owner will be sent the new Full Registration certificate. This application form is at this link - http://www.akc.org/pdfs/masterform.cfm
and then click on "Application To Revoke Limited Status".

AFFILIATE NEWS!!

Mid America will be supporting another MASCUSA AKC Herding Trial in November!
CENMAS is holding a Specialty in December at Eukanuba!
and SEMASC a new club forming!
We are in the process of organizing an affiliate club for MAS fanciers in the NC, SC, GA & FL area. We chose these states based on population and the possibility of enough working members from this area and trying not to infringe on areas where others may want to form another club. More clubs mean more opportunity for sponsorship of shows and educational programs to benefit all.
According to AKC, we will need to keep a smaller core group but this, in no way, is meant to exclude anyone who would like to be a part of our organization. Our tentative name will be SouthEastern Miniature American Shepherd Club, subject to vote by the charter members. So come, get on board now and be part of the initial organization.
Please let Lisa Grose at semasc@att.net know and she will send you an application for membership. We will then add you to our discussion forum (fancy word for list). No dues are required until we, as a group, vote on our bylaws and what we feel is needed.

The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted into CDHPR (UKC!!)
The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted into the Canine Developmental Health and Performance Registry (CDHPR) with UKC. This is the first step in seeking full recognition with UKC! In order to receive full recognition, our breed will need to show growth and have litters registered with CDHPR. There is not a time frame on when we will receive full recognition, but I am hoping that we can show them what a strong breed we are as we move forward!
At this time, we are to begin registering our dogs with them. I will be submitting the initial electronic database as well as a written one to CDHPR. This is your chance to get your dogs registered at an affordable price!! Cost is $5.00 per dog being registered with the initial database. After that time, you will submit all applications to CDHPR directly and the fee will be $35 per dog.
This is what you will need to include and send to me:
1. A Single Registration Application http://www.cdhpr.com/CDHPRWeb.nsf/pdf/SingleAp.pdf
(Please note on the application, that 3 photographs of your dog are required)
2. Copy of your dog's AKC Miniature American Shepherd Registration papers
3. A 3 generation pedigree with registration numbers (the one used to register your dog with AKC, or a copy of your AKC pedigree)
4. Include all owner's and co-owner's information up to 4. This includes addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses if possible.
5. If your dog is DNA'd with AKC, you can submit that information as well. There is a $10 additional fee and form to fill out.
http://www.cdhpr.com/CDHPRWeb.nsf/pdf/FO3CDHPR.pdf
Please make checks out to CDHPR. I am aiming to submit the database by the end of September. I am requesting all applications be submitted to me no later than September 15th.
Mail your complete packet with check made out to CDHPR to:
Deanna Mooney
2202 N. 201st Ave.
Buckeye, AZ 85396
Once the initial database is completely registered any offspring resulting from the mating of 2 CDHPR registered MAS's may be litter registered. During the time we are in CDHPR, please be aware, they do require both the sire and dam to be DNA profiled. The DNA process takes 4-6 weeks, so you may want to take that into consideration before preparing to register a litter.
CDHPR does allow for the registration of deceased dogs as well, so the pedigrees can be more complete for future generations.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at ukcminis@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Deanna Mooney
