INSPECT UPON ARRIVAL
Please check your AKC and your NAMASCUSA registrations papers when they arrive, if there are any errors contact registrar@mascusa.org ASAP. It is much easier to correct papers now then a year or two down the road, and typos are unavoidable so read your papers carefully.
Thank you! |
It is very important to remember to include a copy of your AKC Miniature American Shepherd papers when submitting paperwork to us for processing! |

I love these brags from Juniors!
"Alstars Never Say Never." Jasper
from Connie Orwig
He is now recognized by AKC as "BN Alstars Never Say Never" as he completed his Beginner Novice title. He'll start showing more this year. By UKC he is recognized as "UAGI Alstars Never Say Never." He completed his level one agility title in UKC last fall. He had his debut agility show at the UKC Gateway Nationals, taking High in Trial Junior his second time ever in the agility ring! He took another two High in Trial Junior at our Peoria fall trial. He also has one leg towards his Rally Level 1 title in UKC (He's only shown once). He took 1st place at our county 4H fair in both Obedience and Showmanship and went on to the State Fair, where he proceeded to take 1st place in Obedience and 3rd in Showmanship.
Jasper is also a registered Therapy Dog now through Delta Society Pet Partners. We haven't done any visiting yet as my schedule hasn't allowed for it, but hopefully we'll get started with that before too long. I plan on doing reading assistance with him at the Grade School when I'm a Junior (I'm currently a Freshman).
We just got back from showing Saturday and Sunday at a UKC Obedience/Rally show. In Rally, he Q'd every time with consistent scores of 99 or 100. He earned his RO2 title and had lots of fun. On Saturday, he also managed to bring home High In Trial, along with many High In Trial Juniors.
He will be showing at Premier this year in the Junior Invitational in Agility.
Jasper's Titles:
AKC - BN
UKC - UAGI, RO2, UCD
As far as UKC rankings go, I'm now on the Junior Rankings in Showmanship and Agility and am currently ranked first in Obedience and Rally. For All Stars both dogs are in the Novice rankings (Jasper is 28th, Angel is 34th). They're also both on the Rally rankings in all three levels - in RO1 Angel is 5th, Jasper 10th... In RO2 Angel is 14th, Jasper is 31st... and in RO3 Angel is 15th and Jasper is 45th.It's been a really busy but fun summer. I'm looking forward to Gateway Nationals as well as our AKC and UKC shows in Peoria that are coming up this fall.
I'm so happy with Jasper and how he's doing.
Thank you!

Proposals need to be to the board no later than October 1st for consideration.
Thank you!

Hope aka Rockin R Hope Floats, CGC,TG1,
This summer she showed in her first UKC agility trial, only got in one day, 2 runs, but got a Q on both, so is 2/3 of the way to an AGI title, with our next UKC trial in November.
She showed at her first ever Teacup Agility Trial, and placed in 8 of 9 classes, got a title in games 1 (TG1), a leg in Standard Beg., and of her placings got 4 firsts, a second and 3 Thirds. She and Cooper's Bailey Gal did a great job of representing MAS at the Teacup Trial with their enthusiams, willingness and overall happy selves.
Hope also is continuing her therapy dog work with Paw Pals, mainly visiting at St. Francis Children's hospital, where people often ask, 'is she always this calm and quiet'.
People remarked many things about her over the weekend, but as the weekend went on..the phrase 'she's really fast' was said a lot!
Shelley Geyer

Cooper's Bailey Gal attended her first Teacup Agility Trial this last weekend. It was in Tulsa, OK. She earned a 1st, four 2nd's, two 3rds, and two 4ths in her 9 runs. She also earned her TG1 (Teacup Games Title) and a leg towards her standard title. It was loads of fun and Shelley Geyer's mini, Hope, and Bailey made very good impressions on the group as well as bringing home their share of ribbons..

The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted
into CDHPR (UKC!!)
The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted into the Canine Developmental Health and Performance Registry (CDHPR) with UKC. This is the first step in seeking full recognition with UKC! In order to receive full recognition, our breed will need to show growth and have litters registered with CDHPR. There is not a time frame on when we will receive full recognition, but I am hoping that we can show them what a strong breed we are as we move forward!
At this time, we are to begin registering our dogs with them. I will be submitting the initial electronic database as well as a written one to CDHPR. This is your chance to get your dogs registered at an affordable price!! Cost is $5.00 per dog being registered with the initial database. After that time, you will submit all applications to CDHPR directly and the fee will be $35 per dog.
This is what you will need to include and send to Deanna Mooney:
1.A Single Registration Application Click here on the red(Please note on the application, that 3 photographs of your dog are required)
2. Copy of your dog's AKC Miniature American Shepherd Registration papers
3. A 3 generation pedigree with registration numbers (the one used to register your dog with AKC, or a copy of your AKC pedigree)
4. Include all owner's and co-owner's information up to 4. This includes addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses if possible.
5. If your dog is DNA'd with AKC, you can submit that information as well. There is a $10 additional fee and form to fill out. DNA form click here on the red!
Please make checks out to CDHPR. I am aiming to submit the database by the end of September. I am requesting all applications be submitted to me no later than September 15th.
Mail your complete packet with check made out to CDHPR to:
Deanna Mooney
2202 N. 201st Ave.
Buckeye, AZ 85396
Once the initial database is completely registered any offspring resulting from the mating of 2 CDHPR registered MAS's may be litter registered. During the time we are in CDHPR, please be aware, they do require both the sire and dam to be DNA profiled. The DNA process takes 4-6 weeks, so you may want to take that into consideration before preparing to register a litter.
CDHPR does allow for the registration of deceased dogs as well, so the pedigrees can be more complete for future generations.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at ukcminis@gmail.com
Thank you,
Deanna Mooney

Introducing a NEW Weekly Article!
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Author Judy Nordmeyer
AGE OF BREEDING DOGS
QUESTION: Does the AKC have rules on how old or how young a dog can be if being used in a breeding program?
ANSWER: If the SIRE &/or DAM are over TWELVE (12) YEARS OF AGE at the TIME OF MATING, or if the SIRE IS UNDER SEVEN (7) MONTHS OF AGE &/or if the DAM OF A LITTER IS UNDER EIGHT (8) MONTHS OF AGE at the time of mating, then the LITTER WILL NOT BE REGISTERED unless the application for registration shall be accompanied by an affidavit or evidence which shall prove that fact to the satisfaction of The American Kennel Club.
In the case of an overage sire, we would ask whether a recent sperm count was done by a veterinarian and, if so, that we receive a copy of the veterinarian's findings. If you own an overage male and you intend to use the dog at stud, we recommend that you have a sperm count done by your veterinarian. If the veterinarian finds that the male is capable of siring a litter you should make several photocopies of his findings, which can then be submitted in the future with applications for litters sired by the dog. We would also recommend that you have a sperm count done every six (6) months thereafter.
If you have had a litter registration application form rejected because the age of the sire and/or dam that was not in compliance and you request the AKC to reconsider the matter, you should submit as much information and supporting material as possible. The AKC would want to know if the breeding that took place was a "planned" breeding. We would also want to know if there were any witnesses to the breeding who are in a position to identify the sire and dam and, if so, statements from those witnesses should be submitted. You should tell us how the bitch was confined during the entire heat period and whether or not there was any possibility of the dam being exposed to any other male during the season in question.

EXCELLENT ARTICLE!
What is a sound dog?
by Joanna Kimball
"Across the spectrum of animals that are deliberately bred, there is a concept that in dogs we call "soundness."
When I first heard it used in connection with dogs, it took me a long time to figure out what was meant; I finally realized that it was the same thing I'd learned in rabbits twenty years before.
Soundness is, basically, the architectural quality of an animal. It's so consistent across all dogs, and across virtually all animal species, because the same problems are being solved by all living things. They have to stand up (and bear their own weight), they have to move while consuming the fewest calories, and they have to convert food into energy that allows them to get more food." thank you Liz Mcguire for submitting |

Thank you to the MASCUSA board for approving UKMASC as an affiliated club, we look forward to sharing our members news & achievements.
The United Kingdom Miniature American Shepherd Club was formed in 2011 by a group of Miniature Australian Shepherd enthusiasts and breeders. Now with the move to AKC we are very excited to be able to have our dogs recognised by AKC as Miniature American Shepherds and to promote the breed and MASCUSA in the UK. In the last eight years the UK population of Mini's has grown to over 80 dogs and we have a great community of owners and fans of this amazing breed! Although we cannot conformation show in the UK yet we enjoy promoting the Mini's in other areas such as agility, flyball, obedience & pets as therapy dogs. UKMASC has an associated facebook group which has regular photo competitions and we are busy organising an agility points league and future events & activities for our members to enjoy.

How do you know when it's time to euthanize?
By Dr. Andy Roark
"Remember that pets live in the moment. One of the most wonderful things about animals is how they embrace the present. Every time I walk into my house, my faithful dog
throws a one-dog ticker tape parade. The fact that I have entered the house thousands of times before, or that I will leave again in a few hours, means nothing. All that matters to him is the joy that he feels right now. When our pets are suffering, they don't reflect on all the great days they have had before, or ponder what the future will bring. All they know is how they feel today. By considering this perspective, we can see the world more clearly through their eyes. And their eyes are what matter"

This past weekend little Cupcake was introduced to stock for the first time. As you can see, she is going to enjoy this activity. Also this past weekend, little Spice earned her AKC Open FAST agility title and then headed over to her herding lesson - where she figured out how to "keep her cool" while also keeping an eye on her sheep : )
