AKC Tidbits & News!
It is very important to remember to include a copy of your AKC Miniature American Shepherd papers when submitting paperwork to us for processing! |
INSPECT UPON ARRIVAL
Please check your AKC and your NAMASCUSA registrations papers when they arrive, if there are any errors contact Mindy ASAP. It is much easier to correct papers now then a year or two down the road, and typos are unavoidable so read your papers carefully.
Thank you! |

Lee Fairchild who is one of our members and a man who is a Skyhoundz Disk Dog World Champion also serves his community in an awesome program!
Please take a moment and read the inspiring article and consider presenting the documentary to your local community!
A new documentary, "The Dogs of Lexington," chronicles a unique program involving inmates and dogs.
Nicole Hill - July 13th, 2013
Half scruff, half scrap, Sarge drapes his small frame over the right leg of Bill Miller as the man, with concerted tenderness, rubs circles in Sarge's black-and-white coat.
Inmates at the Lexington prison work with dogs in the Friends for Folks project.
What you notice first in this scene is the bond between man and dog, both content to sit side by side as long as they're allowed.
Then your eyes drift to Miller's standard-issue gray uniform, and you remember that this tableau is taking place not in a recliner in the living room, but rather the confines of a prison cell.

SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACTS
& DOGS SOLD WITHOUT REGISTRATION PAPERS
QUESTION: What does the American Kennel Club think about a Breeder holding onto registration papers until receiving proof of spay/neuter from the Buyer of a pet puppy?
ANSWER: It is acceptable under the AKC rules. There should be a written agreement between the Buyer and Seller stating that AKC registration papers will not be furnished to the buyer until the seller has been furnished with evidence of the neutered or spayed. If a dog is sold under such conditions, it is important that the agreement be signed by the buyer before the dog leaves the seller's premises. QUESTION: What if I decide to give a dog away or sell the dog without
the AKC registration papers? What should I do?
ANSWER: If a dog is given away or sold with the understanding
that the AKC papers will never be furnished, then the Seller/Donor must obtain a signed statement from the recipient that they are
agreeing to this condition. Such a statement must be kept in the
Seller/Donor's records for 5 years. AKC suggests that the Seller/Donor withhold the dogs identifying information (Sire & Dam's names & registration numbers and the litter registration numbers)from the recipient of the dog. Give the recipient the dog's date of birth, vaccinations administered, vaccinations needed, and any other
information needed to properly care for the dog.

The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted
into CDHPR (UKC!!)
The Miniature American Shepherd has been accepted into the Canine Developmental Health and Performance Registry (CDHPR) with UKC. This is the first step in seeking full recognition with UKC! In order to receive full recognition, our breed will need to show growth and have litters registered with CDHPR. There is not a time frame on when we will receive full recognition, but I am hoping that we can show them what a strong breed we are as we move forward!
At this time, we are to begin registering our dogs with them. I will be submitting the initial electronic database as well as a written one to CDHPR. This is your chance to get your dogs registered at an affordable price!! Cost is $5.00 per dog being registered with the initial database. After that time, you will submit all applications to CDHPR directly and the fee will be $35 per dog.
This is what you will need to include and send to Deanna Mooney:
1. A Single Registration Application http://www.cdhpr.com/CDHPRWeb.nsf/pdf/SingleAp.pdf
(Please note on the application, that 3 photographs of your dog are required)
2. Copy of your dog's AKC Miniature American Shepherd Registration papers
3. A 3 generation pedigree with registration numbers (the one used to register your dog with AKC, or a copy of your AKC pedigree)
4. Include all owner's and co-owner's information up to 4. This includes addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses if possible.
5. If your dog is DNA'd with AKC, you can submit that information as well. There is a $10 additional fee and form to fill out.
http://www.cdhpr.com/CDHPRWeb.nsf/pdf/FO3CDHPR.pdf
Please make checks out to CDHPR. I am aiming to submit the database by the end of September. I am requesting all applications be submitted to me no later than September 15th.
Mail your complete packet with check made out to CDHPR to:
Deanna Mooney
2202 N. 201st Ave.
Buckeye, AZ 85396
Once the initial database is completely registered any offspring resulting from the mating of 2 CDHPR registered MAS's may be litter registered. During the time we are in CDHPR, please be aware, they do require both the sire and dam to be DNA profiled. The DNA process takes 4-6 weeks, so you may want to take that into consideration before preparing to register a litter.
CDHPR does allow for the registration of deceased dogs as well, so the pedigrees can be more complete for future generations.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]
Thank you,
Deanna Mooney
