- December 2012 AKC Board Meeting Highlights
(Friday, December 21, 2012)
New York, NY - Highlights from the December 12, 2012 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows. Full details on these actions, as well as other actions taken, are included in the minutes for the meeting, which are posted on the AKC website, within one week of the meeting.
- Effective April 1, 2013, clubs holding a Rally Trial no longer must hold an Obedience Trial in conjunction with the event. A club holding a Rally Trial must hold an Obedience Trial in the same year, but the events need not be limited in the same manner either in terms of entries or breeds permitted.
- The event service fee for all Performance Events will be $3.50 per entry effective July 1, 2013. This will make all Performance Events consistent.
- Effective April 1, 2013, Retriever Hunting Test Clubs may, at their option, limit the entry at the Master level to 60, 90, or 120 entries. Such limits must be included in the premium list for the event.
- Effective December 12, 2012, the judge of the Four-to-Six Month Competition may compete in the other classes at the show.

FOUR IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM MASCUSA
ADDRESS CHANGE
Effective immediately, the club's official business address for all mail (including registration paperwork, memberships, and winsheets) will be:

This change of address has been done in order to provide a better system of checks and balances. Paperwork will be held for a sufficient time to allow checks to clear the bank prior to being forwarded for processing. Payment made by PayPal must be against an invoice generated by MASCUSA for specific processes. Foreign money orders and cashier checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank. All mail that has been sent to PO Box 141097, Broken Arrow, OK and PO Box 65, Shawnee, OK, will be automatically forwarded to the new post office box.

MASCUSA AWARDS PROGRAM
REMINDER! - The MASCUSA Board of Directors approved an extension of the deadline for winsheets for the awards period beginning June 27, 2012 and ending December 31, 2012. The new deadline for winsheets for this program period is January 15, 2013. All winsheets for this program period must be postmarked by that date to be accepted and no exceptions will be granted.
The new awards program period is January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013. During this awards program period, all winsheets (for AKC and non-AKC venues) must be postmarked within 30 days of the show at which the points were earned. All points earned towards Championships or Grand Championships during the previous program period will roll forward into this new program period. Merit points will start over for the new period.

NEW FORMS, FEES AND RULES
Effective February 1, 2013 there will be new and improved registry forms, some fee increases, and a few changes to the registry rules. The new forms and a fee schedule will be available on the MASCUSA website - mascusa.org - at that time. These changes are being made to facilitate the new role of the NAMASCUSA Registry as an entity for registering outcrossed litters and verifying pedigrees of dogs for entry into AKC/FSS as Miniature American Shepherds.
As a reminder - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY - all forms and club correspondence should be mailed to:

AKC Litter Registration
Per our agreement with AKC/FSS, beginning January 1, 2013 all litters born of two parents that are registered as Miniature American Shepherds must be registered with AKC. NAMASCUSA will not register litters born on or after January 1, 2013 of two Miniature American Shepherd parents. |

Puppy Evaluation: A Breeders' Roundtable (Part One)

A majority of longtime breeders will probably agree that the most enjoyable part of raising dogs is watching that new litter of puppies grow and wondering how each will turn out.
As the little ones tumble and play and learn to carry themselves, qualities start to emerge. Thoughts come to the breeder's mind about what the future will hold: Which one's head will be prettiest? How big will this one be? I love how that one moves...
Looking into the future isn't easy, and making more accurate assessments of what a puppy will be as an adult often entails extensive knowledge and experience. Breeders who have been "in the game" for a while can offer certain guidelines and approaches that help ensure better success in puppy evaluation.

"Vegas" is out of Multi Champion Painted Meadow Blue and Mockingbirds Fancy Dancie Treasure. Thank you Karey Marrs for allowing Fancy to come and live with us. Vegas is from Fancy's first and only litter to date.

Litter Announcements
MASCUSA members get one free announcement in the Tuesday Talk for litters with health clearances on both parents (OFA hips, current CERF).
MASCUSA members may purchase additional announcements for litters with health clearances for $20 per package of four announcements.
MASCUSA members may purchase announcements for litters without health clearances for $40 per package of four announcements.
All litter announcements will appear in a section called the "Puppy Pen" at the end of the Tuesday Talk in a standardized format as follows:
one photo, maximum size of 300 pixels wide x 200 pixels high
a maximum of 50 words of description
