AKC Tidbits and News
[Monday, November 05, 2012] |
After the recent devastation in the northeast caused by Hurricane Sandy, the American Kennel Club Humane Fund has created the "Sandy Fund" to assist organizations that provide support and services for dogs and owners faced with the challenges of natural disaster.
"The AKC is greatly saddened by the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy," said Dennis Sprung, AKC President and CEO. "The creation of the Sandy Fund will help us do everything we can to assist companion animals and their owners in the region during this trying time and in any future disasters."
The "Sandy Fund" will allow AKC clubs and affiliated organizations to provide assistance for pets and their owners in their own communities during a time of disaster. The new Fund's first donation was made to the Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club to aid their relief efforts in Staten Island, New York. Clubs interested in applying for a grant to assist local disaster relief outreach can send a request in writing to dxs@akc.org.
Anyone interested in donating to the Sandy Fund please donate here and mark your donation as for the Sandy Fund | |

Rebecca and I took our 3 girls to a CPE trial this weekend. The field was up in the San Diego East County mountains. It started out in the low 40's in the mornings and went up to high 80's in the afternoon and then started really cooling off again at sunset.
Rebecca ran her Sally who is still having a blast in agility at 11 ½ years old. She went 7 for 10. (Her other 3 runs were clean; only missed time by a few seconds on each.) She had a perfect day on Saturday - 5 for 5
Lego who just celebrated her 9th birthday on November 2 had a PERFECT WEEKEND - 10 for 10! I had almost pulled her from the trial as she is getting over a recent bought of nystagmus. She had so much fun and I'm so glad I didn't pull her after all!
Bonnie was 8 for 10 - she is still our goofy young girl, but she really turned it on this weekend!
So our 3 generations of Willow Rock girls rocked the agility trial!!!
From left to right is Sally with her head on her daughter Lego and Bonnie snuggled up to her mom Lego. Guess those power naps really work!

(Flagtree's) POPP's Little Tin Man (Ozzy) and I had a great time at our second AKC trial. Ozzy got his first AKC title in JWW in his first three jumpers runs and both of this last weekend's JWW runs were both Q1's! We tried FAST for the first time and ended up with a Q2 and a Q3. We also got a Q2 in one regular run and ended the weekend with Q's in five of six runs!

Introducing a new Member
Tracie Shaw
I am Tracie Shaw, I am the Secretary of the Shasta Kennel Club and Rally chair at our AKC show in Gridley. Also a member of the Nor Cal Training Club in Redding and Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America. I have 2 Bulldogs and an Icelandic Sheepdog. The Bulldogs are the last of a great run in the show ring. I got my Icelandic in 2008, the Icies were FSS and had just been put in Misc in 2008. I feel the Mini Aussie (I am not sure which verbal description is correct) would be a perfect addition to my family. My dogs have Conformation, Rally and OB titles. I am going to start learning about herding and treibball. I plan to do all the above plus Flyball with the Aussie. Thank you for allowing me to join the club and groups.

Send to me and I will place them in a future Tuesday Talk and maybe we can start a photo gallery of minis herding!
Let's do it right away!!

ATTENTION PHOTOS NEEDED!

The club needs good quality photographs of dogs in various settings, i.e., herding, agility, obedience, family/companionship, etc. These photographs will be used for a variety of things such as use in brochures, other forms of advertising, on the website, etc. If you have some great photographs, please send them in. You will need to submit a Photograph Release Form for any photographs you submit. This form can be found on our website under MASCUSA Forms. The higher the resolution, the better.
Send the photos to Mindy registrar@mascusa.org
