VanWilligans are busy earning AKC Herding Titles!
Congrats Mattie and Jack
This weekend was an AKC Herding trial put on by the Golden State Rottweilder Club. Timeless Jumpin Jack Flash got his title on Started Course B, coming in 3rd with a 90. He ran it again today and placed 4th with a 79. Timeless Mattie Ross got a 76 on Intermediate Course B placed 4th for her first leg. She placed 5th with a 84 on Advanced Course A, and earned her first leg.
I believe she is the first MAS to get a leg in intermediate B and advanced A. |

Following your passions no matter where you are in life just shows how grand life with dogs can be!
Television viewing might not lead to life-changing moments for most people, but it has for Lee Fairchild. Fairchild, 53, had just ended his career as a team roper in 1999. Lee Fairchild and his dog, Gracie, (above) demonstrate their dog disc skills recently in Goldsby, OK. Photo by Steve Sisney, The Oklahoman
Read the entire article about Lee below ........
( Gracie measures right under 17")
One night he was watching ESPN and stumbled upon the disc dog world championships. He was mesmerized.
"I saw a man named Bob Evans who was 65, the oldest guy in the competition, and his dog was also the oldest dog in the competition and they ended up winning," he said. "It was just a really neat thing." That was 13 years ago.
Now Fairchild is a world champion, capturing three titles since 2005, and finds disc dog competition to be compatible with his age.
Team roping isn't. "This is something I could do into my 70s," Fairchild said.

Great Explanation of the Open Shows!!
http://wcmkc.homestead.com/OPEN-SHOW.html
How to Count The CM Points!
The Certificate of Merit (CM) requires 15 points awarded in accordance with the following point structure
(Dogs Competing Points) :
2 dogs = 1 point
4 dogs = 2 pts
8 dogs = 3 pts
12 dogs = 4 pts
16 dogs = 5 pts
Your own dog counts as one dog.... but if you are the only dog in your Breed, you can still go onto the Best In Miscellaneous Class (MISC is NOT considered "Group" at the regular dogs shows, by the way).
Each BOB Misc. dog gets to compete with the other BOB Misc breed winners and can earn more points (total of up to 5 in any show) by counting ALL (not just the BOB winners) of the MISC dogs that were actually shown.
* To be awarded the Best In Misc (BIMISC) ribbon, you don't need to have any other dogs in competition. If you are the only MISC entry and you show in the BIMISC competition ..... you win the BIMISC.
NOTE : You may also earn CM points in Puppy Competition and at "Open" shows. At these competitions the Misc Class winners and the FSS Class winners do go onto compete in their "Groups" (confusing, huh?) But they also get to compete for the Best in Show as well.
Open Shows and Puppy Competition do not allow Breed Standard DQ's in the 4-6 month puppy class .... so a puppy could earn a CM and not actually meet the Breed Standard (oversize, bad bite, pink noses, etc.).
AKC/Eukanuba National Championship
Dogs Eligible for the Miscellaneous Competition Honor Roll
Miscellaneous breeds who have won a CM (Certificate of Merit title) or at least three (3) Best of Breed WITH COMPETITION or One (1) Best in Misc. class WITH COMPETITION during the current qualifying period will earn a place on the Honor Roll. Teacup Treasures Mercedes owned & bred by Kim Gardner is now on the Honor Roll and headed to Eukanuba!!! She might have finished her Certificate of Merit, it shows she has 14 pts as of 10-6 but she won BOB w/competition & BIM 10-7 & 8 so hopefully that will finish her. Looking forward to Florida and our first Eukanuba!!! |
Sizzlyn Hot Hard To Resist of Applewood "Pippin" at her first point show. We showed outdoors in heavy rain. The rain just ended a short while before this photo was taken. As you can see Pippin's hair faired much better than mine. A big "thank you" to Juliene Laughy for entrusting this wonderful puppy to us.

Dear AKC Canine Good Citizen Graduates,
We are extremely pleased to tell you that beginning in January 2013, as the result of frequent, ongoing requests from proud CGC dog owners, Canine Good Citizen will become an official AKC title!
This means that CGC can be listed on your dog's record and you may use the suffix, "CGC" after the dog's name.
Key points related to CGC becoming a title are:
- You will be able to choose to get the CGC certificate only ($8.00) or have CGC as an official title (the processing fee for the title is $20 and includes a certificate with your most recent AKC titles listed).
- If your evaluator gave you an older test form that does not show the title option, there is a downloadable ADDENDUM that you can attach to your test form to request the title.
- We will grandfather dogs who have already earned the CGC award (back to January 2001) if their owners wish to apply for the title. To have a CGC award "grandfathered" as a title, use the form, APPLICATION TO ADD CGC TO YOUR DOG'S TITLE RECORD: The Grandfathering Form. Many of you many want to add the title to formally recognize your CGC dogs who are now deceased - we are honored to offer this choice to memorialize your beloved dogs.
- AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy remains as it has been; it is not a title.
-
How soon can I apply for the title? We will not start entering titles until January
2, 2013. For dogs tested between now and January, you (as the dog's owner) have 3 options:
- Submit the CGC Test/Registration Form now for the CGC Title option ($20: Certificate and CGC will be added to the dog's title record), understanding that your check will be cashed now but the CGC Test/Registration form will not be processed until January 2, 2013, or,
- Submit the CGC Test/Registration form before January 2, 2013 choosing the $8: Certificate only option, and have the CGC Test/Registration form processed now for the Certificate Only. A Grandfathering Application (for CGC as a title) can be submitted at a later date. This option means that the dog owner will pay $8 now for the Certificate Only, and $20 when the choice is made later to apply for the official title. A new certificate will be sent when the CGC title is added to the dog's record.
- Take the CGC test before January 2, 2013 and hold the paperwork until January if the owner is choosing the title option. This means that the owner will only pay the $20 title processing fee.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who successfully trained your dogs to the Canine Good Citizen test. We're proud of you!

ATTENTION PHOTOS NEEDED!
The club needs good quality photographs of dogs in various settings, i.e., herding, agility, obedience, family/companionship, etc. These photographs will be used for a variety of things such as use in brochures, other forms of advertising, on the website, etc. If you have some great photographs, please send them in. You will need to submit a Photograph Release Form for any photographs you submit. This form can be found on our website under MASCUSA Forms. The higher the resolution, the better.
