Darlin' Darby Winters
Just thought I'd share some good news with you. My little MAS, Darby, finished off his NADAC, NATCH & V-NATCH championship titles last month. So for this year, he has managed to achieve his agility championship titles in three different agility venues (AKC, USDAA & NADAC). This was the goal that I had originally set out to accomplish with him. I just didn't expect it to all come together so soon, and within the same year! Needless to say, I'm very proud of my boy. My life has been truly blessed by the presence of this little red merle dog.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Winters & V-NATCH, NATCH, ADCH, MACH Darby |

Great Explanation of the Open Shows!!
http://wcmkc.homestead.com/OPEN-SHOW.html
How to Count The CM Points!
The Certificate of Merit (CM) requires 15 points awarded in accordance with the following point structure
(Dogs Competing Points) :
2 dogs = 1 point
4 dogs = 2 pts
8 dogs = 3 pts
12 dogs = 4 pts
16 dogs = 5 pts
Your own dog counts as one dog.... but if you are the only dog in your Breed, you can still go onto the Best In Miscellaneous Class (MISC is NOT considered "Group" at the regular dogs shows, by the way).
Each BOB Misc. dog gets to compete with the other BOB Misc breed winners and can earn more points (total of up to 5 in any show) by counting ALL (not just the BOB winners) of the MISC dogs that were actually shown.
* To be awarded the Best In Misc (BIMISC) ribbon, you don't need to have any other dogs in competition. If you are the only MISC entry and you show in the BIMISC competition ..... you win the BIMISC.
NOTE : You may also earn CM points in Puppy Competition and at "Open" shows. At these competitions the Misc Class winners and the FSS Class winners do go onto compete in their "Groups" (confusing, huh?) But they also get to compete for the Best in Show as well.
Open Shows and Puppy Competition do not allow Breed Standard DQ's in the 4-6 month puppy class .... so a puppy could earn a CM and not actually meet the Breed Standard (oversize, bad bite, pink noses, etc.).
AKC/Eukanuba National Championship
Dogs Eligible for the Miscellaneous Competition Honor Roll
Miscellaneous breeds who have won a CM (Certificate of Merit title) or at least three (3) Best of Breed WITH COMPETITION or One (1) Best in Misc. class WITH COMPETITION during the current qualifying period will earn a place on the Honor Roll. Those who qualified under the Misc. Requirements, and are now a regular status breed, will compete in the Regular Classes. |

Introducing one of our new members!
Ron Christianson
Hi my name is Ron Christianson and I live near Bode (north central) Iowa, on an acreage. I would like to introduce my Aussie's.
First is "Heater"... Pocket's Take N The Heat. Heater is a son of Pockets Sizzle N Red N Hot, aka: "Sizzle" and his mother is TMR Lucy Love. Heater is a black/white/copper toy with brown eyes and is offered at stud.
My second Aussie is "Feature"... Pocket's Special Feature, her father is Southern Cross Augustus McCray and mother is Southern Cross Charolais. Feature is a blue merle mini with blue eyes. Both dogs were bred by Ruth Vanderhoof.
Both Heater and Feature came to me via Gypsy and Tim O'neal of Kansas. The photos are by Gypsy... thank you. I am really looking forward to a litter of puppies from these two. Their last litter produced both toys and minis.
I offer a little more information on them on my web-page: www.sonaraacres.com .
Thanks and have a great day. Ron

12 General Rules for Training Dogs By: Dr. Nicholas Dodman
I will list the first two here but please click the link and read all twelve!!
1. Training should be an enjoyable experience for you and your dog. If you are not in the right mood for training, don't even start. Keep training sessions short, on the order of 5-10 minutes, to maintain your dog's motivation.
If your dog doesn't respond appropriately to a command after several attempts, don't reward him. Resume training a few seconds later using a simpler command. Return to the more complex task later.
Always end training on a positive note. Ask your dog to respond to a command you know he will obey. Then reward him for a job well done and issue a finish command such as "free" or "release." Avoid common words such as "okay." Following a training session, both owner and dog should be left with a feeling of accomplishment.
2. Every dog should be familiar with the basic obedience commands, including come, heel, sit, down and stay
Teaching your dog to sit-stay and down-stay off leash is also a valuable lesson. Additional commands that are useful include: leave it, give it, stop it, and enough or cease.
Keep in mind that a dog's motivation to respond to a command decreases as the complexity of the task increases. The odds of success, hinge not only on the degree of sophistication of the task but also your dog's motivation to respond. From a dog's perspective the question is, which is more rewarding, chasing the squirrel or returning to the owner? |

ATTENTION PHOTOS NEEDED!

The club needs good quality photographs of dogs in various settings, i.e., herding, agility, obedience, family/companionship, etc. These photographs will be used for a variety of things such as use in brochures, other forms of advertising, on the website, etc. If you have some great photographs, please send them in. You will need to submit a Photograph Release Form for any photographs you submit. This form can be found on our website under MASCUSA Forms. The higher the resolution, the better.
Send the photos to Mindy registrar@mascusa.org
