Linderland Long Drive to Fairway

Lacey and herding

Lacey

Laura Hamer invited me to her farm to introduce Lacey (Linderland Long Drive to Fairway) to ducks. Lacey has always been the most well mannered, quiet little girl since the day I first got her. Then she met the ducks. A switch turned on and my laidback "Lump" (as my husband affectionately calls her) turned into a herding machine. Needless to say, we both found this alot of fun and can't wait to continue our studies. Sheep next?

Past Weekend News, Brags and Fun!
What a huge weekend for the Miniature Americans

Our Miniature American Shepherds did it again!
Congrats to Ashley Badgett of Ausland Aussies for winning the Misc. on Friday at the AKC show at Purina Farms. She was showing Boot Tops Dare To Compare. Thanks!
Cindy Shaykett

Great Companions Fancy Pants took 3 Best of Breeds, and 2 Best in Show Miscellaneous. We came oh so very close to taking Miscellaneous today. The judge was thinking, and thinking, but the Pedango took the win, with Sassy a close second. There were also Coton's and Rat Terrier's in the show.

Timeless 2 x 2 California Blue took one Best of Breed, and 3 Best Opposite Sex.

Linda Dubois

Timeless Laughing Out Loud received her final leg for her Rally Novice title this weekend. Shown, Owned and Loved by Lisa Wilson
Multi Ch Bravehearts Ms. Blue Eyes of Taycin, CL1, CL2, CL3-F/H/S, JS-N, SL1, mHIC, HCTs, CGC, DTI, MVA-08, V1 got her first Rally Novice Leg this past weekend
BIS Gr Ch Multi Ch McFinleys's 1/2 Pint Tankard of Timeless received his Certificate of Merit Title and his Rally Novice Title
Karen Keller

At the Wenatchee Kennel Club show.
Tank & Frankie both qualified in Novice Rally - Tank earned his 3rd leg and his first rally title - Rally Novice (RN).
Frankie earned her first leg in her debut and took 4th place (beating her son).

We then moved over to the conformation ring and Tank took BOB/Best In Misc to finish his Certificate of Merit (CM) award "unofficial result". Win pictures to follow.
But the most awesome part of the day was the announcement of the Misc Group. Instead of running Best in Misc right after the misc dogs - we were judged in the group rings after the sporting breeds. Each breed was announced and so as Tank & I took the ring we were announced as the "Miniature American Shepherd" with lots of clapping from the onlookers. And then when Tank was selected - we were announced "The winner of the Best In Misc. is the Miniature American Shepherd!" Pretty awesome finish to a wonderful day!

Went to an AKC show in Chino Valley, 9 Miniature American Shepherds entered. Patti Cutler won BOB & Misc with her young boy Abington's Sky's da Limit and I took BOS with Teacup Treasures Mercedes. Sunday Pam England took BOB & Misc with Alta Vista All Cinched Up and Teacup Treasures Mercedes was again a bridesmaid with BOS. Great weekend!

My girls (Giggles, Pearl, Jewel & Madison - aka 4 legged children) & I went to the SANTA MARIA/SAN LUIS BAY GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG CLUB OBEDIENCE TRIAL this weekend. I only had 1 of the girls entered - everyone else went to hang out, socialize, school & have fun.

I am happy to say that Giggles (Timeless Laughing Out Loud) wrapped up her Rally Novice title this weekend. She's doing very well & really enjoys her rally training/work. It's her time when she has me all to herself & doesn't have to share - that and all her 2 legged training friends love her so she's all for it! I'm very fortunate to not only have great little dogs but a super obedience trainer that the girls love as much as their agility trainer and a great bunch of gals that train with us. People at the trial thought we were having a party at our set-ups because everyone was so supportive of each other & cheering everyone on - literally!

Great weekend with the dogs & in our home town too!

My boy Alta Vista All Cinched Up aka Cinch, won BOB at the AKC show Sunday

in Prescott, AZ. I'm so happy for him!!
Pamela S. England

Mia earned 2 more legs towards her RAE in Victoria, TX 2 weekends ago - that makes 8 towards the 10 needed for the title. I'm pretty proud of my 2 girls now both with titles in herding, rally, obedience and agility.

Trudi's Standard run from Saturday. She was terrific, EXCEPT for creeping up on the starting line and triggering the timer before she actually started running...little stinker!
We not only took first, but we beat a world team dog. Pretty cool. If we could just get to where we don't make mistakes!!!

Here is pic from the AKC show in Amarillo TX this past weekend. Multi CH Love That Taycin Texan ('Dallas') won the Best in Misc. class and qualified for the 2012 Eukanuba show! Judge is Dr. Alvin Krause, handler is Maggie Pryor, Broadway Aussies (thank you Maggie!) and myself. 'Dallas' is by Multi GR CH Taycin's Always A Gentleman CM and out of Multi CH Pocket's Love That Red. I am the owner/breeder. Now...let's knock out that CM!

I would like to have a brag about my little Mac. At his second ever Agility competition he came home with a 3rd and 4th place out of 38 dogs! He is the first and only MAS to compete in Agility here in the UK! Very proud of him!

Full Detention Database

At the request of the American Rottweiler Club, the OFA has developed a new dentition database. The database is used to certify full dentition and is open to all breeds. Any attending veterinarian may perform the examination. There is no minimum age, however, prior to certification, all adult teeth must be fully erupted. The database is intended to certify that all adult teeth are fully erupted and present. It is not intended to certify compliance with any specific breed's standard.
Miniature Americans can also send in your test results! Click below!

Get the Most out of a Clinic

excerpt from Lori Herbel

"Don't expect, or ask your dog to work perfectly at a clinic. No one is judging you at a clinic and you didn't sign up to prove to everyone how well you and your dog already work. You signed up to learn! A clinic is an opportunity to fix mistakes and solidify foundation and training. Work your dog as you normally would in a training session at home. Acknowledge and look at your mistakes as learning opportunities. Better to work through the mistakes during a clinic than to confront them for the first time at a real trial!"

"Take advantage of the learning opportunities! Arrive early, and stay all day. Watch the other handlers' sessions, and learn something from each one. Don't just show up once in the morning and again in the afternoon when it's your turn! Would you pay full price to get into Disneyland and then just ride one ride?! No! Would you pay for an All-You-Can Eat buffet and then choose only one dish?! No! Clinics are like an All You Can Learn Buffet.... take advantage of it!"
