AKC 'Extravaganza' Looks To Be Just That

The American Kennel Club deemed its new performance event, slated to kick off in March 2013, an "extravaganza." Because it will feature a trio of competitions, one in its inaugural year, plus other attractions, the grandiose word may not be an overstatement.

Exhibitors and visitors to Tulsa, Okla., can choose from agility, obedience or the latest AKC companion animal event - rally. And they won't find simple trials at the Expo Square pavilion and fairgrounds. Full-on championships in agility and obedience - in the form of the National Agility Championship and the National Obedience Championship - will run during the three-day event.

AKC Rally will see its first national event, the National Rally Competition.

Because it's the Companion Events Extravaganza premiere, the AKC has not estimated how many people may descend on the city, but about 1,500 dogs are expected, says AKC Director of Communications Lisa Peterson. That breaks down to 150 top obedience competitors vying for an NOC title, 200 rally dogs and their handlers ready to make history, and about 1,000 agility champions seeking that NAC in front of their names.

My Favorite Things - Muriel Lee's Whelping Book

By Christi McDonald

The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies, by breeder Muriel Lee, was first published in 1987 and is the one basic whelping book that I have kept on my shelf and referred back to time and again. I've used this book to remind myself of specific information and as reassurance when waiting for a litter to be born

Kennel Club USA now accepts the Miniature American Shepherd into its Group One which consists of the Herding Breeds. Once a dog has entered in a Kennel Club USA venue as a Miniature American Shepherd it cannot compete as a Miniature Australian Shepherd with the sister group The American Rare Breed Association. See the KCUSA website at http://www.kennelclubusa.com,
and the ARBA website at http://www.arba.org.

Marie and Alan Koebke from Texas will be on hand for a herding clinic, following the trial. We expect to be done early with the Test/trial and can devout a good portion of the day to the clinic! Even if you are only remotely interested in herding you don't want to miss this opportunity to learn more.

Cost to enter the AKC Instinct  is $40. Marie Koebke is the judge for our test.

inic audit fee (without a dog) is $25

Please enter let us know if you are headed over for the Instinct test and or to audit the clinic - we do have limited space!
to download an entry form and premium or click below

CLICK HERE FOR THE PREMIUM and Entry Form

I think that the Working Aussie Source is one of the best locations on the net to find herding trials and clinics!

The opening page is for ASCA Trials but be sure and click on the Other Calendars and the Regional Calendars and other Events of Interest!

Keep in mind that AHBA does not require a club to put on a trial -- an individual can host a trial. So if you have a facility nearby that puts on AKC trials, there's no reason they can't also host AHBA events at the same location.

AKC HERDING TRIALS!

The Miniature American Shepherd is eligible to compete immediately in AKC Herding Trials!  As soon as you receive your AKC/FSS number you can enter an AKC Herding Trial.

Find AKC Herding Trials here!

If you have earned an AKC Herding Title please let me know,
Now that we are eligible to compete in AKC Herding Trials, we want to acknowledge those dogs who are out there earning titles and legs towards titles.
Let's have some fun and gather several photos and videos of our dogs herding!!

Send to me and I will place them in a future Tuesday Talk and maybe we can start a photo gallery of minis herding!

Let's do it right away!!
