When you shop at the AWS Flea Market you are
supporting the work that AWS does throughout the year!

The shelves are stocked with AWS logo wear & bags, treats, cat beds & toys, small animal housing & anything else you need for the furry & feathered friends on your shopping list.

Gently used tennis balls, muffin containers donated by Hannaford
and a volunteer willing to package them up ... voila!
A genius fundraising tool for the AWS!

The entire $2.00 goes directly to the hundreds of animals we help every month.

A wide assortment of clothing, accessories and toys for your precious pooch.

So, stop by the Flea Market at the Animal Welfare Society on Holland Road in West Kennebunk - it's your one-stop shopping for the pets and their people in your life!

In 2009, the Animal Welfare Society Board of Directors and staff revised the organization's mission statement to include disaster response:

"The Animal Welfare Society, a non-profit organization, exists to provide humane shelter and care to companion animals temporarily in need of housing, to assist in disaster response, and to further the cause of responsible animal adoption and ownership through education and public awareness. The society actively promotes kindness, the elimination of cruelty to and neglect of all animals, and the lifelong commitment of people to their pets."

When Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New York and New Jersey and left Maine, for the most part, unscathed, the AWS reached out to the national organizations that we partner with in disaster response.

Two of our staff, Megan Arsenault and Melissa Pratt, joined the Humane Society of the United States' Animal Rescue Team in Garden City, New York for 8 days to work at a temporary animal shelter.  It served over 300 pets left homeless due to Hurricane Sandy.  Many of those pets have since been reunited with their owners.

We also worked with Best Friends Animal Society from Kanab, Utah to take in 5 dogs from an animal shelter in New Jersey that was overcapacity.

These three cuties are still available for adoption:

In addition, AWS partnered with Paw zn Around, Saco and Arundel Fire and Rescue to collect supplies for hurricane victims. Four trucks have traveled to NJ filled with donations for pets and people.

If you would like to contribute to the animals in need in New York and New Jersey, please donate to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. 100% of monies raised will go directly to disaster relief in the areas affected by the storm.

You know you love to see these magnets on other people's cars; it's time to get one for yourself or the animal lovers on your list!
