News from John Cappello
Dear Friends:

My month of traveling all over Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Louisiana is over and I get a chance to spend a little time at home for a change.  It has been very rewarding meeting so many new people and working with spirit in the places that I visited.  I am looking forward to spending the holidays with my beautiful wife and family.

This month my mother celebrates her 90th birthday and we will be celebrating all month long.  Relatives will be visiting and we are planning a huge party for her.  I will share pictures with you soon.  Our joy of having her with us is immeasurable and we plan to make the most of her time with us.

The holidays are a "unique" time of year that can bring so much happiness and sometimes stress in our lives.  Our articles this month may give you some perspective into handling this time of year for you.  If you happen to be suffering from grief this year please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please check out our articles this month and take a look at my schedule of events on the calendar link.  I will be making changes that I will post very soon.

Grief and the Holidays

by John Cappello

The holidays are a time of year when we celebrate life, good fortune and practice religious traditions that have been passed down through the ages. It is meant to be a positive time for all of us, but for many people, it can be a struggle to enjoy the season. When a tragedy in your life has created grief for you, the memory of your loss can overshadow the joy that is meant to be during this season. The holidays can be a stressful period when it takes great effort to just participate in events that should be happy occasions. The few days before the major holidays may be time to pause for a moment to consider your options.

When you are suffering from grief and the holidays are upon you, a kind of strategy needs to be employed. This is true whether you are suffering from grief yourself or you know of someone who is hurting. Learning to cope is part of my upcoming book about grief that I hope to share with you sometime next year. It is virtuous in its' own way to learn to cope because the effort assists you in recovery. As is often the case, it may appear to be expected to overcome your pain from grief before you are ready or able to release the energy or power it possesses over you.

The holidays can accentuate the sadness from a tragedy if you allow this to happen. One strategy to empower you to participate in the holiday season begins with being good to yourself. Plan ahead and selectively choose the activities you wish to attend, pacing yourself to only do what your energy level can withstand. This idea may keep you from isolating yourself from others during a time when you may have the opportunity to gain from the experience and not be further drained from sadness. Seeing people who care about you can give you energy and help you with your recovery.

By the same token, being sensitive to people you know who are suffering from grief is a kindness you can give them during this season. It is often difficult to decide what to do when you know someone is suffering from a loss. The last thing you want to do is inadvertently cause them further pain. The kindness you show; however, could be the one gesture they need to start enjoying life again. It is very fulfilling to see a sad person be able to smile and enjoy themselves after or during a period of severe grief. Good judgment is required when taking this risk, but a kind gesture is worth it.

The holidays can be a tricky time for everyone, not just those who are suffering from grief. There are a lot of factors that can bring joy and stress during this time, but I have found that navigating through the maze of possibilities the holidays present to us are rewarding. I am amazed that people in spirit who communicate with me so often bring up holiday events that they recall from their lifetimes. It gives me pause to see and experience other people's joys and sorrows during holidays from long ago.

The thought of suffering from grief during the holidays is not pleasant, but this time can be used to assist someone you care about or you in recovery if handled properly. The positive memories created from the moments you share with others can move grief out of a person's life, and those memories can last a lifetime. My advice for those suffering is to try to cope with your loss during this important season.   In my work as a medium, I have learned that memories can be so important to us that they can last a lifetime, and may be recalled for eternity!

Soul Groups and the Holidays

by Natalie Cappello

The holidays are upon us, and with them, all of the emotions attached to our relationships, past and present. There is the excitement of the beautiful lights, the festivities, and the joy of gathering with close friends and family. There are the fond memories of past holidays, and the sadness we feel as we miss our crossed-over loved ones. This time, more than any other time of the year, is when we gather with those closest to us. For this reason, I feel that it is important to talk about soul groups this month.

We travel lifetime after lifetime with the souls in our soul group. Although they are not all present in every life we live, many of our close friends and relatives are members. Furthermore, some souls in our group may only show up as acquaintances during a life, a moment in time. While they may have only briefly touched our lives, they can still have a powerful impact. Do you remember someone you met who made a lasting impression on you even though you hardly knew them?

With each new life, we have the opportunity to change roles to help each other learn and grow. We are bonded, whether by relation or friendship. It's not always positive, either. Those who push our buttons have something to teach us (or learn from us) as well. Perhaps even the annoying uncle at Thanksgiving is a member of your soul group. This time presents an opportunity reflect on our actions, take a stand, or mend fences. They are all lessons. Also, souls progress at different rates. You may feel close to someone, but it still may be challenging to understand them.

We can take comfort in knowing that we have travelled with our friends and family many times before and will many times again. Enjoy your holidays, love your friends and family, and remember those you love who have crossed-over.   They are still with you.

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend or a meaningful day."
