We strongly support legislation to strengthen ethics reform in Texas. However, many of the compromises made in committee greatly weakened the bill. We support Senator Huffines' amendments and others that put teeth back into this important bill. For instance, the revolving door of lobbying by former legislators needs to stop. Current elected officials should not be exempted from the reforms in this bill. If an elected official has been found guilty of breaking the law (they're entrusted with making), they should not be allowed to receive their taxpayer-funded pension. Texans expect and deserve strong ethics reform. With your help, they'll finally get it with passage of a strong SB 19.
SB 19 (Taylor, V.) - Relating to the ethics of public officers and related requirements; creating criminal offenses.
