Welcome to 2013, and welcome to a new version of COATS!

And another new version of COATS...AND ANOTHER new version of COATS! Thank you for your patience! As we receive updates, we want to get them out to you as fast as possible. It seems to have quieted down a bit. We are hoping our next update will be end of 1st Quarter to update your reports for the Q1 2013 Quarterly Reports. (If you checked reports now, they would still reflect 2012 as we are allowing clients to finish up with Q4 2012.)

Please keep the enhancement ideas coming! We've added reports which help with Job Order and Assignment Metrics (Client Assignment Review and Assignment Fill Ratio) and we hope to add MORE! Let us know what you'd like to see.

We are working on a COATS Visual Studio update. COATSsql uses Visual Fox Pro for its GUI (Graphical User Interface) and MSSQL for its back office engine.  We are keeping MSSQL and upgrading Fox Pro to Visual Studio. This will allow for an updated new look and feel. Font, colors, sizes can be changed based upon user preference and SO MUCH MORE!  We expect a full launch in October 2013.

We love hearing from you, especially if you've discovered a neat COATS trick. Just send us a "Did You Know" for COATS and you could win a $25 gift card. We will even post your tip on the COATS Facebook page for your 15 "posts" of fame :)

Onward and Upward,

Karen

Introducing COATSsql Version 4.3.11
COATSsql
We've got a new version of COATSsql that's required for year-end processing. The main additions are to payroll, of course:
  • Updated Pay Cycle Processing / Check Processing / Federal report to reflect the corresponding FUTA Rate.
  • Updated Pay Cycle Processing / Create Checks to calculate the rate listed in Federal Tax Table for the corresponding state.
  • Updated Quarterly Reports / FUTA By State Summary report to reflect the corresponding FUTA rate.
Fun stuff! Visit the COATSsql download page to get the latest version.

Focus On: The Posts You Liked the Most
We're almost as busy as you are during this year-end season, so this month we're doing a retrospective of our most popular posts, as determined by how many visitors they received. We excluded the Legal Roundups and posts about our holiday hours, which are bizarrely popular. So please enjoy our top 7 posts!

#5 - Write a Better Job Posting, Get Better Applicants

Job postings are one of the most crucial, yet the most often overlooked, marketing tools available to staffing firms. In fact, you might not even think of them as a marketing tool; that's how easy they are to overlook.

#6 - Document Retention Policies are not Just for Large Companies

The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to review document retention policies or possibly to adopt one. It's a good idea not just because of the storage costs but because of the legal costs that you will incur when information has to be collected, searched and reviewed by attorneys if employment claims arise.

#7 - It's the Law: Staffing Firms and FMLA

FMLA provisions mean that small businesses, including many of your clients, are excluded from its regulations. However, most staffing firms are subject to FMLA, which can make for some unusual circumstances.

Did You Know We're on Pinterest?
We've caught the latest wave in social media and have three boards on Pinterest: Feel free to follow us or repin or just peruse our boards. See you there!

We're Also on Google+
We've also established a page on Google+ for everyone who's on that site. We're posting mostly the same content as on our "Staffing Stuff" Pinterest board. But we must admit, it's a little lonely there right now. If you're on Google+, please let us know and we'll try to form a little staffing outpost on it. :-)

LinkedIn logoThe COATS Users Group on LinkedIn is starting to heat up! Many users are discussing the new Employee Portal! We created this group for COATS users to discuss the software with us and with each other so we can all get more out of it.

This is a members-only group, so you don't have to worry about anyone wandering in and spamming us. Unfortunately, that means you do have to apply for membership, but we promise you'll get in; all you have to be is a COATS user. We look forward to seeing you there!
