In Heroes without Capes male voices of real or created personas are often packed with sardonic humor. For instance, Nolan, the split foyer in a home for sale says, "Just don't call me white trash with new paint." These crystal voices sometimes echo like dirty old men nailed for their callow characters, such as boozer Boba Fett who finds religion, changes careers, and drinks only water. An amazing book-finely tuned, plumbed, and fun!

Calling all heroes! Come out after work to meet Raleigh poet/book coach/editor/Star Wars nut Alice Osborn at Lucky Tree celebrate her new book of poetry,
Heroes without Capes. After reading her poetry and singing original tunes, Alice will be happy to autograph your books! Former North Carolina Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti says, "These poems by Alice Osborn-a number of them wonderfully hybrid and distinctive in form-draw a steady bead on heroes and the heroic and, within that malleable context, the anti-hero as well.
Heroes without Capes deftly imagines a hierarchy where the fanciful as well as the mundane are rendered not only heroic, but mythic. The language is tough, sanguine, funny and, above all, memorable."
Wonderland Book Club Presents Brenda Bartella Peterson, author of No Rehearsal: A Memoir co-sponsored by the NC Writers' Network
Location: Center for Excellence, 3803-B Computer Dr. Suite 106, Raleigh, NC Friday, September 25, 2015 Time: 10:00 a.m.-noon FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC To Register Click Here Join us at Wonderland Book Club as we welcome Brenda Bartella Peterson, author of No Rehearsal: A Memoir. Formerly of Raleigh, Brenda now lives in Lexington, Kentucky, where she is a much sought-after speaker. This memoir takes readers through the author's fourteen elementary schools, twenty-six houses, three states, and inept, quirky parents. Her father married nine times. Her mother married four. They married each other three times. The characters in this drama are real-imperfect, complex, sad and funny. Raising her siblings was backgro und research for the extraordinary demands of parenting, widowhood, the loss of one son and her older son's attempt to take his own life. With tenacity, friendships and accountability as her guides, she struggled to figure out what matters, who matters and whether she matters. Brenda has been a teacher, speaker, mother, mentor, minister and political operative. She was the Executive Director of the first religious-left political action committee and the first Senior Advisor for Religious Outreach for the Democratic National Committee.
