Fall means boots, cooler weather and pumpkin spice lattes! Plus new episodes of Saturday Night Live! It also means planning next year's Dream It, Do It Women's Writing Retreat. Our first annual retreat at the Bend of Ivy Lodge in Marshall, NC was a tremendous success. Will you join us next year?
"Alice, your first annual women's writing retreat was truly amazing. It was so many more things than I expected: a sensory-filled experience (sights, food, sound, beauty), a religious experience with time to ponder and recreate our dreams, a safe place to be myself and many new friends, and a serene place to heal on many levels. Thank you again, Alice, for seeing it, feeling it, and trusting it in your own dreams to make it happen for us. Namaste." --Susan Bourland, Wake Forest, NC
We formed new friendships and writing partnerships and now we can't wait to next year--the 2014 retreat is less than a year away and is slated for Fri Aug 8-Sun Aug 10th. Reserve your seat now for only $250 (the balance of $250 is due in 2014) as part of my early, early bird special. Here's the link! RETREAT 2014

Alice Needs Your Input
I've created a short survey that only will take a few minutes of your time. To make my newsletter and workshops as tuned in to your needs as possible, I need you to express yourself and share your voice. Already your responses are fantastic, but I need more input so I can give out a random prize to one lucky winner. Also, I corrected a few glitches that were in the last one. During dialogue and internal monologues, proide your characters with "stage business" - trivial but distinctive actions like adjusting the blinds.
In fiction, remember that one character never tells another what the latter already knows.
"Better safe than sorry" in living. "Safe is sorry" in writing. |

Is Your Book Ready for an Editor?
What They're Saying About Alice
Insightful, meticulous and engaging are just a few words that come to mind when speaking of my recent collaboration with Alice Osborn. Alice exhibited a keen eye and deft touch editing my latest manuscript. Her recommendations were spot-on. When conferencing with her I knew that she was completely immersed in my work and was working diligently to help me bring out the absolute best in my novel. From line-to-line editing to our discussion of characterization, plot development and structure, Alice was a caring and enthusiastic mentor. Like a gifted surgeon she pared away only what was superfluous or unnecessary to the success of the story; she is very adept at working within the confines of the author's wishes. Not only is Alice is a delight to work with, the accompanying editorial services she offers: story synopsis, query letter, and agency listing are invaluable tools in helping market the book. After finishing my next project, Alice will be the first person I call. --Gary Bolick, author of A Snowman in July and Angel's Oracle
