Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Write from the Inside Out is seven years old this month! Can't believe how much I've done since August 2006 to include publishing, teaching, mentoring and editing. Wow! And it was all possible because of you and your support! Thank you so much for taking my classes and trusting me with getting your books ready for publication.
I want to keep getting better, so I've included in this newsletter a short survey that will take about 5 minutes or so of your time. Complete it and you'll be entered in my Random Drawing--and this prize will be truly awesome!
I love rock concerts and late summer is the best time to go. I'm taking my 10-year-old son to his first rock concert: Matchbox Twenty/Goo Goo Dolls on Aug 7th at Walnut Creek in Raleigh--I'm a big fan of Rob Thomas if you don't know. And then it's Tift Merritt, Bill Maher (although not technically a rock concert), Kelly Clarkson/Maroon 5, and Willie Nelson! Whew! Email me if you're going to any of these shows too.
As we're gearing up for Back to School and the fall, I want you to be thinking about your creative goals and what you're going to do to make yourself uncomfortable. This could include starting an enewsletter, a blog, a website, getting active on social media, getting your headshots taken, playing a new musical instrument, taking a dance class, a painting class, a cooking class or joining a book club!
Neale Donald Walsch says, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."
Speaking of which, I got personal when the Mutual of Omaha Aha bus came to North Hills Mall. Here's my video clip.
I'll be participating in the United Arts Cultural Arts Booking Fair at Wakefield HS for the 5th year in a row. From the bookings I receive at this Fair, I'll be teaching students in grades 4-12 storytelling, memoir and poetry. Come out on and say "Hi," Saturday, August 17th from 8:30-4pm. I'll be giving my 5-minute presentation in the Dance Room at 9am. Look for me on Writer's Row wearing my signature orange dress and holding a giant Nemo.
I've got lots of goodies for you for August--take a look below and I hope to see you very soon! My highly anticipated fall Memoir workshop, a Publicity and Marketing for Writers online class, a Advanced Fiction Editing webinar series, Anna Karenina for Wonderland Book Club and more!
SAVE THE DATE! The Fall NC Writers' Conference is Nov 15-17 at the Sunspree Holiday Inn in Wrightsville Beach. Workshops, agents, networking and I'll be helping with the critique service and marketing mart! More info here.

If readers don't like the ending of your book, they will hate the whole book. A simple rule for titles: Get the reader interested, then make the title mean something different by the end of the story.
In real life, events of the day sometimes foreshadow future developments. In fiction, they always do. |

Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and must endure the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Imperial Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness.
