Tenant's Tenacity

By Raine Bee

First, the U.S. housing bubble burst in 2006 when median home prices began to decline.  Next, the U.S. slipped into a national recession as unemployment soared, investments plummeted, and overall economic activity decreased considerably.  Over time, (or suddenly, depending on whom you ask) many homeowners found that they owed far more for their home than the home was worth.

BOOK RELEASE
AUTHOR - WILLIE PERDOMO
The Essential Hits of
Shorty Bon Bon
by WIllie Perdomo

Willie Perdomo is the author of The Essential Hits of Shorty Bon Bon (Penguin Poets, 2014).  His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, BOMB, Mandorla, and African Voices.

The Essential Hits of Shorty Bon Bon
Through songs of alternate takes and tempos and a melody crackling with vitality and dynamism, in language symphonic and colloquial, we follow the percussionist of a 70's descarga band, Shorty Bon Bon, on a re-imagined journey of self-discovery. In this compelling third book, award winning poet Willie Perdomo rebuilds the landscape of Shorty's life from his apprenticeship, love, a move to the diaspora, and ultimately, his death. Replete with classical tropes, touches of noir (including a femme fatale) and a style all-Perdomo, we accompany Shorty Bon Bon through a surreal gig that, it turns out, is his own requiem.

Food for my Soul
By Tomoko

Many equate food with the tangible edibles, but there is another source of nourishment that comes from within, a nourishment that feeds our souls.  When we are in the midst of a traumatic storm, sometimes forgiveness is difficult to achieve.

I have shared the story my girlfriend who was gang raped as a teenager and left her hometown twenty years ago. Two years ago, the man who orchestrated the gang rape, her boyfriend at the time contacted her.  Of course she was in shock.

INTERNET WEB SERIES
"RHINA GETS LEAN"
La Reina Del Barrio, Inc.'s founder and host of Open Fridays on BronxNet, Rhina Valentin, decides to become a runner to set the stage for the conclusion of her "Rhina Gets Leanweb-series.
This past Sunday April 6th she completed her first race of the year. The City Parks Foundations Annual "Run For The Parks" A 4M run in Central Park. Where she was one of 5,542 total finishers.  She came in a little under an hour, with her time being 53:59. Not too shabby! For the first, of many to come.

With her weight up and down like a rollercoaster,
Rhina created "Rhina Gets Lean" two years ago but did not expect major trials and tribulations on becoming lean. "That's it, it's all or nothing!" says Rhina.  "Either I shape up or ship out!"

While raising her daughter, Rhina decided to take on the Bronx Strong Initiative to become lean.  In trying to restructure her world and her daughters',
Rhina is motivated to help transform not only their lives, but the lives of others in her barrios.  The first two seasons of "Rhina Gets Lean" followed
Rhina as she incorporated different methods of training, which included Boxing, Salsa dancing, Capoeira, Pole dancing and more!  Throughout this experience,Rhina has learned that failure is part of the journey.

In the next few months, Rhina will be training intensely and competing in races to prepare her for the exciting conclusion of Rhina Gets Lean -
"Race: The Final Frontier."

INSURE YOUR BUZZ

Protecting your personal property

By Dolly Bee

Friends and Family.  Every day I wake up turn on the news and usually there is a story about a fire somewhere in the City or a nearby city.  But March 12th I was working from home and I heard "Breaking News" reporting an explosion in El Barrio! Two buildings on Park Avenue and 116th Street had collapsed and there was bedlam in the area.  Nearby buildings were affected as well.  There was a gas leak which caused the explosion.  People missing, dead, displaced.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE

When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
