February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is a month of love and relationships, so it is important to talk on the subject of dating violence.

What is dating violence?

Well it is a pattern of abusive behaviors used to exert power and control over a dating partner. So dating violence is not just physical violence, but it can also be verbal, emotion, sexual, or digital abuse that is directed towards the other partner.

Dating violence is real and may be affecting someone you know so learn more about dating violence and find ways that you can help!

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Dennis likes to call Chicago home, but is always looking for new places to travel. He is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at DePaul University studying Business Management, Hospitality Leadership, and International Business.

Dennis is the Region 1 Consultant for IL SADD. He monitors over all of the chapters located in Cook County.

Here ar
some thoughts from Dennis of his work as a regional consultant:

"SADD has always been a part of my life.  I still remember when I joined SADD at Oak Lawn Community High School my freshman year.  Working as a regional consultant with Illinois SADD has allowed me to reconnect with the community I grew up in and interact with other communities in the area. The most rewarding part of the work is when I see youth teaching other youth and adults about prevention methods."

This is Alexandra's first year on the Student Advisory Board and she absolutely loves it. The moment she met all of the other board members, she knew this was the right position for her. These are some of her thoughts of the SAB:

"The SAB board is a family! The work we does is so rewarding and it feels amazing to know that we are all working towards a common goal to positively impact not only our communities, but Illinois and our nation. It is unbelievable to be a part of something so special and I am looking forward to the future of SADD Illinois, the board, and working with this hardworking group of people."

Fun Fact:
When she was younger, she was convinced she was a leprechaun
