Looking Forward: February Activity Guide

Happy New Year!

Let's start off the new year on the right foot! Take a look at the activity guide to get ideas on what you should do with your chapter!

Governor Quinn Proclaims February 5th SADD Shines Day
SADD and SADD students have been making positive change in their communities for 30 years now; so we will be observing February 5, 2014 as SADD Shines Day to celebrate SADD!

The Governor agreed to proclaim February 5, 2014 SADD Shines Day so, it is already a state-wide day of celebration!

As a way to recognize such a monumental day for our organization, we encourage every chapter to celebrate SADD in your school and community! Our SAB members have come up with some ideas below in addition to those included in the SADD National SADD Shines Resource Kit
  • 2 liter bottle + glow-stick lanterns
  • Hand out glow-sticks at school
  • Make a poster or order from the SADD Store
  • Give out Starbursts with a message attached

My Business Cares Sweepstakes

October 16, AT&T launched a new It Can Wait program called My Business Cares Sweepstakes. Small business owners who take the pledge to never text and drive to nominate their local middle or high school for a chance to win a $1,000 donation from AT&T.

Each month, AT&T will select a winning nomination from the small businesses who have taken the ICW pledge and entered the Facebook-based sweepstakes (winners will be drawn at random).

The selected school will also receive an in-school It Can Wait assembly program designed to help educate teens on the dangers of texting while driving and encourage them to take the ICW pledge.

Check out this documentary on how texting and driving affected these people and the other videos talking on this subject.

January is National Blood Donor Month!

There is a huge need for blood in this world, whether it be a patient at your local hospital or someone half-way across the world, there is a need for blood. Each time you donate a pint of blood you could be saving the lives of 3 people!

So what are you waiting for? Get involved with American Red Cross and donate some blood this month!

The deadline for this contest will be March 1, 2014! Be sure to check out last year's grand prize winner. Hopefully that will inspire you to aim for the grand prize this year!

Big Bowl Vote 2014

Are you all ready for the big game that is happening on Sunday February 2nd? Yes that's right it's Super Bowl XLVIII! (48 for those who are roman numeral illiterate :D)

Some may watch the game for the game itself, but personally I know some people who watch the game just for the commercials. (I know, shocking! Like who watches a national championship game for commercials...)

We are asking you to conduct a nation-wide survey at your middle/high school! We want to know which brands you remembered and which ad was your favorite!
Project Yellow Light

Project Yellow is a scholarship competition design to motivate and encourage other teens to not drive distracted.

Distracted driving has been a hot and growing topic and with good reason because 11% of fatal teen crashes have been linked to distracted driving

This competition involves the making of a ~30-60 seconds video that will motivate your peers to not drive distracted! Draw some inspiration at looking at last year's winning videos!

So what are you waiting for? Go apply now and enter in a chance of winning $5,000; $2,000; or $1,000. The deadline is March 17th so start brainstorming your ideas!
