Farewell and Welcome

It is with mixed emotions that I say farewell to Zoe our AmeriCorps VISTA. She will be truly missed! I know she is moving on to some wonderful opportunities and I like to think that her time with IL SADD helped to prepare her for her next steps. Sad to sear her go but happy to see her grow. In the same breath, I want to welcome our new VISTA, Michael Lau and hope you all get to know him over the next  year.

Michael Lau is a recent recruit of Americorps VISTA. He grew up on the south-side of Chicago, a few blocks away from U.S. Cellular Field, home of the White Sox. He is a big Chicago sports "fan-atic" and loves to talk about the teams and how they are typically failing this season. He went to high school at Lincoln Park and then later studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Michael loves exploring new foods/restaurant, so if you know a great place to eat in town let him know! While on the subject of food, Michael loves watching the food network and if he ever has cable tv, food network or espn will constantly be on. A fun fact about Michael is that on his left forearm there is a bite mark that stayed when his little sister bit him when he was 7. So if you get a chance to meet in person be sure to take a look at it!

Christmas at O'Hare Looking Forward: December Guide

Attached is an activity guide for December! You will find a list of all the awareness days, weeks, and months, along with tools and resources to optimize the efforts of your SADD chapter.

New Regional SADD Consultants

Illinois SADD has recently brought aboard program experts to serve as regional consultants across the state. These consultants will provide resources and assistance tailored to the communities they serve. You should be expecting to hear from your Regional Consultant soon.

FInd Your Regional Consultant!  with our new SADD regional map.

Please reach out to these folks and let them know what your chapter is doing and use them as a resource and source of information.

Featured Member of the Month: Sarah Linder

This is Sarah Linder's third year on the Student Advisory Board. She is a senior at Canton Illinois, and very active in her local SADD chapter. Her favorite thing their club does is sponsor their school's after-prom activities. She feels good knowing that they play a role in keeping her fellow students safe in an environment free of drugs and alcohol. Her chapter's biggest fundraiser is a yearly summer car wash. Not only does it raise money, but it also serves as a way to promote awareness in the community.

Sarah is also president of the Canton High School Key Club, and loves playing basketball and volleyball. Outside of school, she enjoys taking care of her spoiled Peking pet duck, Geoffrey. She also has a dog named Neville.
Advisor Survey

Thank you to all advisors who took the ILSADD Advisor Survey!  We really appreciate it and are excited about all the information gathered!

Also, great job to the 68% of chapters who participated that have registered.  We have a lot of great information and resources ready to roll out on the Advisor Member Only access page.  Please remember, you must register your chapter to get the log in information.

We appreciate your time and are currently sorting the information to identify the best possible resources, tools and trainings to help you have the most effective chapter time possible.

Thank you!

We held a drawing for those who participated in the Advisor Survey. Alisha Duenas is our winner and Pawnee Jr/Sr High School will receive a
Tom the Media Guy presentation.

Tom the Media Guy's presentation promotes positive choices through media, music and narration. The shows are designed to make everyone think of their personal choices and consider how to improve their own lives and their community's overall well-being.

Save The Date:
  April 28th and 29th

My year as an AmeriCorps Vista working for Illinois SADD is sadly coming to a close. I have relished the opportunity to be involved with this incredible community of compassionate and motivated people.

Looking back, I can't  begin to count how many remarkable allies I've found in this network--people I am proud to call friends. I can only measure in pride and gratitude, which is to say VERY proud and VERY grateful.

Through this fantastic experience I gained invaluable career insight and found a mentor and lifelong kindred spirit in Robyn Block. I would be remiss in my reflection if I did not thank her outright. She and her fearless (but friendly) feline, and forever-howling canine, have not seen the last of me. Not by a long shot. Neither has Randyl or Megan or Bryant or Zack or Dennis. None of you students or advisors either...none of you.

I will relinquish my post though; I hereby pass the baton on to the very capable and kind, Michael Lau! Expect to hear from him shortly.

As always, if you haven't done so, please register your chapter!!

Sincerely,
