Happy Labor Day, everyone!  September will be a busy month for me as I plan to visit each Student Advisory Board member at their schools to kick off the 2013/14 school year. You may me see wandering your halls with a giant check if your chapter is participating in Celebrate My Drive. Did you register? There's still time!  big check

We will continue to provide you with resources and opportunities for funding and ideas for activities to improve the culture of your school. Keep reading to learn more.

September Guide

We have attached a GUIDE for September that highlights all the important awareness topics, and includes relevant websites to help educate and inspire you and your chapter. We also wanted to spotlight Texting and Driving Awareness specifically.

Illinois Governor, Pat Quinn has declared September "Texting and Driving Awareness Month," because everyone must join in the effort to eradicate reckless and distracted driving.

There are some concrete ways for YOU to get involved.

It Can Wait

AT&T has designated September 19th as the "It Can Wait Day," a chance for drivers of all ages to make a lifelong commitment to never again texting behind the wheel.

Here are some suggestions of what you can do in your school:

  • Plan and host a pledge-signing rally on September 19th
  • Hold a showing of THE LAST TEXT VIDEO during home room, study hall, lunch, or any other teacher-approved period
  • Make and post signs throughout the school reminding the students to not text and drive
  • Organize students to remind their peers of safe driving while leaving the parking lot
  • Post your texting while driving story to ItCanWait.com
  • Share It Can Wait resources and information on your school's social media pages or newsletters

Celebrate My Drive

We've been promoting Celebrate My Drive for months now, but September is really the perfect month to commit to driving safely.

  • Log onto www.celebratemydrive.com to register your school (note: you can fill out the registration form for your administrator, but they need to be aware you are registering).
  • Select a date between October 18-26 to hold a local teen safe driving event (book Illinois SADD to come to your school for your event.  We still have some of these dates available!).
  • Contact a local State Farm Agent to let them know you are hosting a Celebrate My Drive event, and you would like their support.
This is a great opportunity to raise awareness at your school and in your community!

Advisor Survey Coming Soon!
 Chance to win BIG!!
Advisors, please be looking out for the Advisor Survey, which we will be sending out in September. This is an important evaluation tool that ultimately allows us to improve as an organization, so thank you in advance for filling it out! We look forward to getting feedback from all of you! All those who participate in our Advisor Survey will be entered into a drawing to win a presentation for your school. One lucky Advisor will win a presentation from The Media Guy, a $600 value, at no cost!! Students love this huge "three screen" multi-media presentation, and it's our way of saying thank you!
Save The Date:
  April 28th and 29th

I hope school is off to a great start, and your SADD chapter has hit the ground running!

Please email me at: [email protected] with suggestions of what you would like to see shared here, and on Facebook or our website. Also, I want to spotlight your SADD chapter, so please get in touch with me if your chapter is doing big things (and I am sure it is!).

As always, if you haven't done so, please register your chapter!!

Sincerely,
