We Need Campers
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
What an exciting six months this has been. Since my arrival in January, we have accomplished so much together that has brought new faces into the doors of St. James and increased the church's presence and involvement in the community. We are truly becoming more "radically hospitable," which is a testament to your dedication to this congregation and Christ's Church. And yet, we still have much more to do as we continue to live into the Great Commission.
In a few short weeks, St. James will host its first Summer Music Camp, a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to gather together with some amazing teachers to enhance their musical skills, create a musical community amongst one another, and forge ties between new families and this church. This program has the potential to grow into something incredibly vibrant as the years go on. But in order to pave the way for growth and expansion, we must commit ourselves to making it the best it can be in its first year.
To give an idea of what already has been done, we have hired six highly qualified music teachers across three disciplines (piano, voice, and guitar); we have advertised in the community through yard signs, posters, press releases, and website articles; we have reached out through our Facebook network and spoken with numerous community organizations to help spread the word. As you can see, much as already been done to promote this camp in our community.
This camp has been in the face of Westwood community members and beyond for several months, and yet are registrations are sadly low. Thus far, we have only three participants signed up, and we must have a minimum of twelve in order to allow the camp to function smoothly while engaging both the students and teachers for the duration of their time spent here. More efforts to advertise are underway this week and next, but there is one crucial element missing: you.
